I see this being co-oped like black exploitation if there is not enough exposure for other Black themed works after this drops.

How do you see us preventing this?

If this movie is going to spark anything, I hope it leads to an explosion of black filmmakers adapting the works of black created speculative fiction for the big screen.

I think we're already starting to see more. The fact that Ava Duvernay's A Wrinkle in Time is also coming out next year and that it's got so many black actors in it, I think the trend is going to continue--especially with Jordan Peele making Lovecraft Country and Octavia Butler's Dawn and Nnedi Okorafor's work making it to television. I'm pretty excited.

Me too!

Well interesting, I am very interested to see the results of this coming out. First off i am excited and surprised that they even put this out and made it. Do i think that they will try to exploit it of course! Even now we are not taken very seriously as being actors and artists. Will it make money of course! It will probably break records even just to really shake things up. The question is what then? Will they make more movies yes but the question is who will write it? Direct it? Star in it? In a perfect world it would open the flood gates to black writers and creators to get a foothold in Hollywood. We are going to have to shake up the world by reaching back to pull each other up. I want to see this work and people get it in. And i am definitely watching it closely!!

I think that it will be amazing!

This is a competition for markets & minds.  The Mainstream versus our Dreams.  We have been gaining over the decades.  Ours is the need to secure our primary market and fan base along with related resources. Otherwise the massive resources of the Mainstream along with the religious brand loyalty folks makes it a much slower process.  But remember, they too started off doing books long before they were doing movies. And their folks bought in!   Unlike music a lot of folks prefer their graphic novels White or Asian.  Buying and appreciating Black on its own is still a challenge for the mainstream loyalists.

I have NO faith in Hollywood per se, but I have faith in Marvel to make good superhero movies. And I was skeptical on them doing Black Panther justice on the big screen until I saw it. THey knocked it out the park. But now I totally expect hollywood to do their best to offset that imagery with more slave movies, gangster flicks, hood flicks, kevin hart comedies, etc.

Financial impact?

Posted by Turtel Onli on June 11, 2018 at 8:12am 2 Comments

Are there any stats or evidence of positive impact to or on independent Black owned businesses per the activities of Black Lives Matters, Black Entertainers, Black Athletes, and the ever loving Black Nerds? After they picket, party or protest is there a bump up of profits in Black on Black positive enterprise.  Or is this limited to haunting the suspicious activities of certain folks and not participating in legal Black-Money?

Problem is, he suspects Melera, his sexy new flame, might be the serial killer terrorizing Seattle. Or maybe she isn’t.
