I often reflect on why I do what I do.
I think for me, I do what this out of a sense of cultural obligation (self, family, community, nation) as well as enjoyment.
I love seeing Black and ethnic stories, in books, comic, movies etc. I think every race, color and creed deserves this.
My legacy is my motivation. I grew up hearing stories about the Mayflower and Ellis Island. I couldn't relate to those stories. Positive African American stories were rare. Unfortunately, when we die memories of who we were and what we did during our time here fade quickly. When we become writers our words live on forever. Your great grandchildren will know that you did something positive during your time on planet earth.
I write simply because I love to see the stories in my head spill out across page. My books tend to have a mixture of ethnicities, whether Earth-based or alien. But Blackrose Press is a little different. There's so much great writing, great stories coming out of the POC communities, and I want to do my part in sending these stories out into the world.
My motivation is to be a world citizen, mentor others, pay it forward whenever possible, and to be a better writer; to reach someone with my words.
