Ok thanks Wolfgang. Will be searching for an editor!

Comment by H. Wolfgang Porter on September 2, 2016 at 9:13pm

Crystal, you definitely need to get an editor or at the minimum a good proofreader. There's no way you'll catch everything 'cause you're too close to the work. Even when you set it down for a while and come back to it, you'll catch some things but stuff will slip by. An editor's job is to catch stuff and ask questions as to whether you 'mean what you say' on the page and offer suggestions to 'say it' in a manner that will be more succinct to readers.

Thank you Patricia and H. Wolfgang!

You I have some beta readers. At this point I don't have an editor since I am self-publishing... I had to leave a writer's critique group because of how they critiqued.

I will stick with beta readers (and pouring over my work several times) One of them is my closest friend who can be brutally honest. lol.  I feel blessed about that.

Once again thank you!

I get what Wolfgang says completely, having come across some really out there and wild comments on writing sites from people who hadn't read my narrative 'cept under some influence on spec - given I knew what happened and what hadn't in my shared extract.  However, to be fair, I have come across editors worth their weight who helped to transform someone's work to the utmost.  Obviously can be applied or a gift.  Luck of the draw and you need to grow a thick skin and keep your sense of humour ...

Crystal, usually your editor and beta readers will do that for you. It's a risk getting someone who critiques as a service. You can't be certain how honest their assessment is and if they wild out on your work you paid them to do so.

Is there a service where I can have someone critic my work before publishing?

Thank you!  I have a short story I would like critiqued.

Indie small Black Age publishers need fans, resources and respect.  We are not to be seen through the filter of well established corporate publishers.  That is like seeing a hip hop trio through the lens of a classical symphony orchestra.

I see the SPC is going strong! Between rebuilding my production company and starting a run for another graduate degree I've been way out of pocket. However, I still keep my hands deep in the self-publishing biz. I'm glad everyone is putting up their work and sharing info. That's what the SPC is all about.

We Need That Water (an original poem)

We Need That Water

I'm dropping a new poem about the value of clean water. Hope you like it! My spiritual brother Tim Brown edited the video and did the music. Hope you all enjoy! I'm excited to do it!

We need that water

by

Clifton McMillan Jr.

Clean water's value rises regularly

Spring wells are desperately needed globally

However locally, water does not demand our sincere appreciation

Until drought conditions ward off precipitation

The elderly have never seen a drought like this in their lives

Farmers’ crops have crumbled because the dirt is dried.

Some say that this is divine punishment for our collective sins,

Others declare that Mother Nature is just acting according to her whims.

Regardless, the automatic car wash is closed until further notice

Park grass went from green to a rusted brown…

THE UNDERGROUND BY ROXANNE BLAND

Life as alpha of a werewolf pack is anything but predictable. But even Parker Berenson is surprised by the latest twist: he’s fallen in love with a space alien. Problem is, he suspects Melera, his sexy new flame, might be the serial killer terrorizing Seattle. Or maybe she isn’t. After all, just because she’s an interstellar assassin doesn’t mean she’s guilty.
