Just last night I was in a discussion with a racially mixed group of middle and upper middle class folks at, of all places, a tennis club. The discussion got around to my series of novels and I asked everyone, regardless of color, "If offered the opportunity to leave everything earthly behind, would they join a colony on the moon and never be in contact with earth again?"

Several people said that given their lives at that moment, it would be a temptation to join. Of the three black folks in the discussion, one said she would not because of her close ties to her family, the other two men said they would jump at the chance.

One white guy in his mid fifties said he'd go as long as being the only white in the colony didn't make him the subject of unrelenting prejudice.

Again, believe it or not, the majority of the whites just couldn't wrap their heads around anyone black being so unhappy with life here that they'd abandon earth for a risky, great unknown.

What I would like to ask here is, what would be your decision were you offered the opportunity to leave earth for a life off-planet, leaving everything behind? That means no contact with anyone in your past, no visiting earth for any reason whatsoever.

Would you make the choice to secretly leave earth to live in a technologically advanced colony populated only by black folks?

Please, let me know what you think...

If I were alone in the world, I'd go in a heartbeat.

But I have family, children, a grandchild. I couldn't leave them.

That's a very interesting question. I would probably bounce only if I could take my immediate family.

If my family, friends, and strong community that affirms me and gives me a reason to hang here on this planet could not go; then neither would I.

interesting, a trip to the moon, a colony perhaps ... how much money will it be estimated to terraform lady luna? ...

The real problem is after you make such a rash decision every time your side of the moon faced the earth you may have a long term buyer's remorse feeling when you see your birth planet in the night's distance!

How many Super Bowls you missed, Star Wars episodes 16,17 and 18 not to mention the advancements made by black people long after you were gone... By the way I took over BSFS and imposed an imperial rule on members here while the Administrator left you un-Moderated and at my mercy! Lol

What activities would keep you occupied because it takes a while for a new civilization to get an identity, political flavor, religious zeal or cohesive continuity... You may be just like them pioneers that have to think of everything new even if you are advanced technologically!

If you set up a golf course wouldn't that be a form of nostalgia that makes you long for back home where the gravitational pull did not effect your shot as much... You may have to ban all things that remind people too much of earth otherwise you might get a reverse migration effect!

That looks like a whole lot of work plus how would you protect yourself from pirates who stole ships to come terrorize you every other weekend... You will need a couple of hard hitting heavy cats for a military or police force as mob bosses took advantage of your isolation from earth and set up feudal systems!

No matter what you will still be around humans and all the by products that come with the life experiences no matter where you go!

So get yo @$$#$ back down to earth and handle your business right here and right now and stop running from your destiny!

Oh and while you were on the moon you aged rapidly due to the moon's own orbital path going around both the earth and the sun giving you two birthdays that have made your calendar years a convoluted mess... You old geezers you!

earth is home, a colony of all negroid beings sounds tempting to join, if that ever was the case, can one just leave behind all thye've accomplished on earth?. trouble is everywhere, even in a colony with no whites, somebody is bound to profuce troubles for others. think about it, what if it got back to earth that life up there was so solid and lucrative .. other ethnic groups might want to come along.

Hate to rain on part of your parade, Iran!

But the same side of the moon faces Earth all the time, and the colony is on the side that faces away from the moon at all times.

Also, everything you mentioned is a look back at what was, nothing about the grand adventure looking forward...I do answer many of the questions you bring up though in the second volume, Conception due out shortly. :-)

Probably too much, especially so given that the moon's gravity wouldn't hold an atmosphere to the ground...

That's the premise of the Darkside Trilogy. For almost 40 years, Blacks have been secretly living on the backside of the moon, well before Neil Armstrong arrived. Their tech is awesome, and they will each live at least twice as long in years as those left behind on Earth.

The racial makeup of the colony in involute, no non-blacks are recruited or allowed so that the culture can thrive without interference or racism.

The question really is, if offered the opportunity to secretly move there, disappear from your earth life forever for the adventure of a lifetime, with no whites allowed, would you go?

William, that makes perfect sense to me.

As for the suggestion of terraforming, that'd kinda give away the existence of the colony, wouldn't it?

Robert Heinlein, in The Moon is a Harsh Mistress, handled it by some lunar cities being domed and other partially domed and the rest underground. Personally, I think that'd be a better solution, then if there was a leak, that section could be sealed off. Not so good for those trapped inside unless there were emergency "stations" in each section where people could retreat until the leak was sealed.

But can you imagine what the heavens would look like from the back side of the moon at night? Wow!

Good question.

Currently  I'm working my way through a seventies science fiction series called SPACE :1999.  The premise of the series is the Moon left Earth's orbit and the space station's inhabitants have no way to return to Earth. Despite all the adventures they experience with other civilizations, it is apparent that their disconnection with Earth is not a happy one.

I'd have to say leaving Earth permanently is not an option for me. Mostly because I have so much unfinished business here. It also bugs me that leaving Earth with all her resources to the NWO is distasteful to me in the extreme. The Earth belongs to us.

I would leave taking only the one set of clothes on my back.

The U.S. Coast Guard lieutenant spent hours on end planning a wide-scale domestic terrorist attack, even logging in at his work computer on the job at headquarters to study the manifestos and heinous paths of mass shooters, prosecutors say. He researched how to carry out sniper attacks, they contend, and whether rifle scopes were illegal. And all the while, investigators assert, he was amassing a cache of weapons as he ruminated about attacks on politicians and journalists.

But Christopher P. Hasson was not an isolated figure, according to a contractor who worked with him. The 49-year-old…

THE UNDERGROUND BY ROXANNE BLAND

Life as alpha of a werewolf pack is anything but predictable. But even Parker Berenson is surprised by the latest twist: he’s fallen in love with a space alien. Problem is, he suspects Melera, his sexy new flame, might be the serial killer terrorizing Seattle. Or maybe she isn’t. After all, just because she’s an interstellar assassin doesn’t mean she’s guilty.
