REALITY

Posted on September 22, 2012 at 9:15pm 1 Comment

My new novella Reality is available now in ebook format from Amazon. This is an action packed fast moving adult novel set more than 3 million years in the past before humanity diversified into races to the most advanced society our planet has ever known. Dark brown people from the continent of Africa have settled around the world in the temperate zone. This is not a teen age dystopian story with a hero motif. This novella tells the story of a ten centuries long feud between two families. One…

peace anpu. hey bro i didnt mean to hijack your post on talent or morals and turn it into a discussion on whether homosexuality was natural or not,my bad. but you know how one comment can lead to another then we on to something totally different. i just wanted to thank you for stepping in there between me and ron because his comment got me heated. i responded but not as i would have if i responded yesterday, thats why i waited. so i did respond but it was more of a lets-try-to-understand-each-other rather than what-the-hell-you-mean? but i saw your comments more thoroughly AFTER i responded and thats why i wanted to thank you because it started getting personal and we should never get into that. so thanks again, peace.

This was a very good movie; probably not a great one, but a very good one. And I did have some problems with it, like--

--how many people do you think were calling the Alien Tip Line? And this kid (1) gets through (2) is taken seriously and (3) they send in a SWAT team who grabs the mother but seems to ignore the kid, so intent they are in taking out the alien rather than capturing him.

--Mr. Wu (James Hong's character): Why send out a guy from the home office if you already have somebody on-site? Wasn't he sending back reports? Why wasn't Wu put in charge of the "final resolution?" (Maybe because he'd "gone native?")

--where did Klaatu pick up his knowledge of Earth fashion? How did he know he was a 42 Long? What if the guy interrogating him had been a 38 Short?

Still, the original had its problems, too... and I still like it.

Jacob (Jaden Smith) was a whiny brat (several membes of the audience sugested remedying this in ways Child Services would probably not approve of) yet would a '50s kid (like Billy in the original) be believable today? But he was a plot device to show that compared to the species Klaatu represented, the human race is just a whiny kid but he also repreents our capacity to change. The fact that Helen gave him that unconditional love regardless (and she woould have been just as self-sacrificing had she been played by a black actress, but it underscored the alien-to-each-other theme) also showed the side of the species that Klaatu hadn't seen: that we could be sincere about out beliefs.

I did read the original story (but it's been a while); Gort wasn't called "Gort" in that one. In this one, his actions were independent of Klaatu's (hence his saying, "I don't know if I can stop it.") As for not reviving Klaatu... Gort didn't in the original story, either, but as Jacob said when the sphere departed, "No, he's leaving." (In the original screenplay, Edmund North deliberately chose a someone whose name was "Carpenter" and whose initials were J.C. as the person who provided Klaatu's wardrobe. That whole "dying for humanity's sins" angle is taken to the max here.)

As for no explanation of the 2008 Klaatu being a clone: When the camper encounters the first sphere (that we've seen, anyway), there's somethig inside (Klaatu?) but we don't know (and can't see) what it is. When Klaatu emerges (or re-emerges) in and is asked what does he really look like, he answers, "It would only frighten you." The fact that there's a patch of skin kissing on the guy's hand in '28 and someone who looks just like him appears 80 years later, well... (Another allusion to the original movie: a doctor at Walter Reed asks another doc how old he thinks Klaatu is; the doc replies, 35, 38? and is told no, he's nearly 80... and he healed himself with "some kind of salve," like the sample Jennifer Connely takes with her that he describes as "his medicine.")

As for why Klaatu didn't insist on meeting with the UN? Hey, I came all the way here, I'm not gonna beg... (Even in the original, Klaatu says as one point, If I could come 280 million miles for this meeting, surely you can come to DC.)

It's really a much better movie than you're giving it credit for being.

One potentially valuable way to attack cancer cells is to zap them with low-intensity alternating current. This interferes with the flow of calcium and potassium ions in and out of the cells, a process so important that disrupting it ultimately kills them.

But there is a problem with this approach:…

Figure 1: On 17 August 2017 LIGO detected gravitational waves from a neutron-star collision. Within 12 hours observatories had identified the source of the event GW170817 within the galaxy NGC 4993 – shown in this Hubble Space Telescope image – and located the associated radioactive emissions, or “kilonova”. Hubble observed that flare of light fade over the course of six days, as shown in these observations taken on 22, 26 and 28 August (insets). THE UNDERGROUND BY ROXANNE BLAND

Life as alpha of a werewolf pack is anything but predictable. But even Parker Berenson is surprised by the latest twist: he’s fallen in love with a space alien. Problem is, he suspects Melera, his sexy new flame, might be the serial killer terrorizing Seattle. Or maybe she isn’t. After all, just because she’s an interstellar assassin doesn’t mean she’s guilty.
