I was just reading an interview on the why of there not being a strong interest in Sci Fi and Space Science by Black people. I think it is because we have been told subliminally by nearly all the Sci…Continue

OK…Please what may sound like craziness or arrogance or ego…Please forgive me, but I’m of an age such that I can remember when a Black dancer in New York would take a T-Shirt, cut the collar off, put on a pair of jeans that had holes in the knees from sliding on the floor during dance practice, some high top tennis shoes and go outside to a street festival and the very next day almost, Bloomingdale would have that on a mannequin in their main window! And in a week EVERYBODY would be wearing that. And the woman got no credit for “designing” the next sheikh look. When new dances would hit the TV screen on the teen dance shows and in nearly no time, EVERYBODY would be doing that dance! When all the new sounds in music were coming from Black artists. In other words, I remember when we were the leaders of fashion, music, dance,…(and some of you younger writers aren't going to believe it) a time when whites could not clap on time or dance in time to the music! Hard to believe because the masses of whites have caught up.
So when I look around and I see us following them in making imagery and movies rather than us creating the next big thing, I’m frustrated. Please forgive me, I mean no disrespect to those of you who are doing it but do we really need a video game where murder is still the main focus? Where the only real difference is the color of the skin of the action figure and the backgrounds are from Africa?
We are GIGANTIC HEADED PEOPLE, not just large…we have enough monied celebrities that we should be able to put together Sci Fi projects that transcend the limited mind farts that come off as Summer Block Busters.
Is it just me? Or am I tripping so hard I’m totally out of reality?
If we create it, will “they” steal it? Hell yes! But that shouldn't stop us. We should allow our creativity to flow so hard, before they can even finish with the production of their first theft we should be on to the next. And with today’s Internet distribution, we should be able to make enough money off direct sales to THE WORLD that we can afford to sue for what is rightfully ours.
We should have a collective fund to provide the money to hire the lawyers necessary to win and make stealing without paying the original creator a thing of the past.
OK, that’s it. I’m down off the soap box. Sorry bout that. It just pisses me off that with so much talent, we still get sucker punched thinking “they” will do the right thing next time… sooner or later.

I remember it rained a lot in New China. On those days I would hang near the front of the family store, and when my Mother was reading and my Father not in sight, I would silently slip out the front entrance and onto the sidewalk. With my eyes closed, I would lean back against the wall of the store. I could feel the coolness of the wet wind on my face. Above my head the shop signs swayed in the wind and water would begin to fill first the street and then the sidewalk itself.…

Life as alpha of a werewolf pack is anything but predictable. But even Parker Berenson is surprised by the latest twist: he’s fallen in love with a space alien. Problem is, he suspects Melera, his sexy new flame, might be the serial killer terrorizing Seattle. Or maybe she isn’t. After all, just because she’s an interstellar assassin doesn’t mean she’s guilty.
