Some of the greatest obstacles to dealing with racism are not necessarily the open racists who tell you that they hate you, they despise you and wish that you would disappear from the earth. Those are easier to confront. It's the well meaning folks who want to discount your personal experiences and the experiences of those who you know and try to convince you that you're somehow wrong for asking for racial fairness.
The well meaning folks try to tell you that the open racists aren't really all that bad and will defend them to the end. The well meaning folks tell you that you're somehow pushing too far too fast. The well meaning folks who love talking unity until they don't get to be in charge all the time. The well meaning people who want to shoot your stuff down when you take pride in your heritage.
The well meaning folks will always demand that you unconditionally forgive the oppressors but won't demand an ounce of accountability from the oppressors. The well meaning people tell you that you'll receive divine justice on Judgment Day, but don't you dare ask for any justice in this lifetime. The well meaning people will sit quietly as church mice when bad things are going down and won't raise any objections. The well meaning folks won't sign a petition, attend a protest, call a politician, join an organization or something.
Well meaning folks may not be there in the street gang kicking you in the ribs, but they will walk on by whistling without doing anything for you as you get beaten half to death. And frankly, it's not cool. It's uncomfortable to deal with certain issues, but ignoring them because they seemingly don't affect you is just unacceptable. I'm just hot right now.
