I've actually asked this question on another social networking site, and wanted to bring this same question here.

Considering the advent of 3D printing technology, is it possible to create a toy line using that technology, and selling said product to the public?  For our comic book creators, it's another marketing route to help promote your books and characters.  The same can be said for some of our Sword & Soul fantasy writers.  It would also be a big plus for our brothers and sisters that are into animation; having models of your characters and/or mecha and model ships.

I've been doing a bit of online research to study this (Google and Yahoo search engines), and found some promising results.  From what I saw, you can purchase a 3D printer on the consumer/prosumer market for between $1000-$1500.

So, what say you all?  Can this be done?  Are any of you inspired to try this...?  Could this possibly start a job creation movement as well..?  The last person that I remember that tried to start a toy company for the masses was the sister that created Sun-Man (Yla Eason, I think her name was), and she had to make contacts with people in China to do that.  This is a possibility to create our own home grown toy company...or, at least try it out on a small scale first to test the waters.

So...what say you all?
