Okira Through The Years

To my fellow artists and creators. Just want to share a bit of encouragement today. There's no short cut to becoming good at what you do. It takes hard work and a lot of practice. It also takes a particular mindset that says,"No. I'm not better than everyone else. I'm not even the best that I can be. I must strive to do better."With that thought process, you won't ever become content with where you are in terms of your work, but you'll always be striving to improve. It isn't about other people's praises or criticism. Those are fine and can be helpful. But more important is your own ability to be your own worst critic. It's a powerful ability to be able to look at your work critically and see the flaws and the areas in need of improvement. Here's an image I put together showing the progress I've made thus far with my illustrations of Okira. Okira has been with me for some time and one of my earliest illustrations of her is from 2002. I didn't focus on illustration through the years so the next time I took up a pencil was in 2013 when we started to work on Celflux You can see the crude illustration of that year. I applied myself, and by 2014, my illustration of Okira was much better. Then more practice produced better work in 2014, 2015 and the final image is how she looks today 2016. If I continue to apply myself, 2017 will be even better. So be encouraged. Don't think of yourself has having arrived, but always striving to do better. Through hard work and lots of practice, over time, your work will start to improve. If it's working for me, it will work for anybody.
