"Black writers, of whatever quality, who step outside the pale of what black writers are supposed to write about, or who black writers are supposed to be, are condemned to silences in black literary circles that are as total and as destructive as any imposed by racism." ~ Audre Lorde

I'll step outside those black literary circles then. Sorry, I didn't grow up urban nor in the rural country. Not going to write those 'church chic lit's either. I grew up on fantasy, science fiction, and video games. I created my own worlds. Not going to be pigeonholed into writing like Toni Morrison, Zora Neale Hurston, or Maya Angelou. I respect their pioneering efforts, I'm just not going to write about the same things as they did. It's redundant.

We are grown men, we can write about what we want to write about.

Richard Wright's stunted male protagonist is an approved type of his era. Chester Himes' stories of the weird world of the two cynical Establishment cops, are not about 'scared men' but they know their place.  James Baldwin exposed another, rather unsettling for some, layer of the Black world in America, there were bisexual or homosexual men.    Walter Mosley's Easy Rawlins and the deadly Mouse know how things actually are, but don't go along with it. Mouse would have handled things differently in Wright's tale, and came out smiling and the two women left alive and satisfied. While Easy,Gravedigger and Coffin Ed might have exhanged nods or even shaed a drink.  Science Fiction and Fantasy- there is enough strangeness in Amurika's reality then to go Elsewhere.   The Black female writers proceeded from the tales of " Ours is a heavy burden", to the 'mainstream approved' "Things would be so much better if these dawgs bear their share of the load!"   Stella, though bruised Purple, did get her groove back!   Ms. Lorde exposed another unsettling picture of the Black experience- there are bisexual and/or lesbians trying to find a viable place for themselves.  Unlike Samuel Delaney-Would Donald Goines have written a tale of an intergalactic badass who was Black?  The audience would have had had to been led to that new horizon.  Urban dramas taking place on the surface of Titan.  Zane-esque tales of a steamy rendevous after waking up from a deep freeze sleep?  " But- But- what will the 'mainstream' say?" Go tell 'em to read War and Peace or Peyton Place!  It's about them anyway! Too much Hennessy and coffee fired ranting, sorry.

Financial impact?

Posted by Turtel Onli on June 11, 2018 at 8:12am 2 Comments

Are there any stats or evidence of positive impact to or on independent Black owned businesses per the activities of Black Lives Matters, Black Entertainers, Black Athletes, and the ever loving Black Nerds? After they picket, party or protest is there a bump up of profits in Black on Black positive enterprise.  Or is this limited to haunting the suspicious activities of certain folks and not participating in legal Black-Money?

SKYCITY TALKRADIO

THE UNDERGROUND BY ROXANNE BLAND

Life as alpha of a werewolf pack is anything but predictable. But even Parker Berenson is surprised by the latest twist: he’s fallen in love with a space alien. Problem is, he suspects Melera, his sexy new flame, might be the serial killer terrorizing Seattle. Or maybe she isn’t. After all, just because she’s an interstellar assassin doesn’t mean she’s guilty.
