Someone has to die or a novel just doesn't seem complete to me. Is this frame of thinking morbid or worse yet, limited? How do you decide which of your characters bites the dust? Is it premeditated or does it just happen? Can a speculative fiction novel truly be complete without a single ounce of death? (I'm talking about minor characters too... you know that insignificant guy who got in your antagonist's way.)
