I am sure all of you may have known this, but I had no idea that a black woman named Vanessa Morrison runs Fox Animation Studios. Fox may not be releasing Black super hero films but that is still a good look for people of color in Hollywood. Vanessa Morrison recently renewed her contract and you can read about it here

ox Animation Studios has had past and current hits such as all of the Ice Age movies and fully owns animation powerhouse Blue Sky.  What I did not know is that Fox Animation was run by a black woman by the name of Vanessa Morrison. Who says that people of color are not in powerful places in Hollywood? Not to mention she has just renewed her contract so she has seriously been putting in work for awhile.

Fox Animation Studios president Vanessa Morrison has renewed her deal with Fox Filmed Entertainment (FFE), it was announced today by FFE chairmen Jim Gianopulos and Tom Rothman. Brian Keane, an EVP and COO at Blue Sky Studios, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Fox Animation, has also re-upped with the company. Keane continues to report to Morrison. Most recently, Morrison oversaw Fox’s 3D event Ice Age: Continental Drift, which has made over $380 million at the box-office worldwide.

“Vanessa and her teams at Fox Animation and Blue Sky Studios set the bar higher with each picture, and the results speak for themselves,” said FFC chairmen Tom Rothman and Jim Gianopulos in a joint statement. “We couldn’t be happier that she will continue to work her magic in the years ahead.”

Last year, Morrison oversaw Rio, which earned over $486 million in worldwide box office. Before that, Morrison supervised Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, which has grossed more than $886 million worldwide to-date, and the critically acclaimed Fantastic Mr. Fox. She also contributed to the $297 million worldwide success of Dr. Seuss’ Horton Hears a Who!, an adaptation of Dr. Seuss’ beloved children’s book.

Upcoming is Epic. a 3D CG action-adventure comedy directed by Chris Wedge that reveals a hidden world unlike any other. The film stars Beyoncé Knowles, Colin Farrell, Josh Hutcherson, Amanda Seyrfried, among others.

Morrison was named President of Fox Animation Studios in 2007 after serving as executive VP at Twentieth Century Fox. She previously operated as Senior Vice President of Production and Vice President of Production for the studio During her tenure at Fox, Morrison spearheaded the production of Garfield: The Movie, Garfield: A Tale of Two Kitties, Cheaper by the Dozen, Cheaper by the Dozen 2, Dr. Dolittle 2, and Fat Albert.

Keane joined Greenwich, CT-based Blue Sky in 1999 as the CFO and in 2002 was promoted to general manager. In 2007, he became the studio’s chief operating officer. During his tenure, he has overseen the consistent growth of the studio as well as the move of its headquarters from New York to Connecticut in 2008.
