I was tossed as to whether to place this in the Racial Issues forum. Ultimately, I figued it would fit here or there, equally well. There are times when take a stance and walk on our own, having given up on the hope of aid from those who are not us. However, there are other times when we look at the actions of those others wonder to our selves, "maybe."My middle son has just returned from the movie theater. Interestingly, his excitement was regarding a trailer rather than the feature movie. It seems Disney is producing their first hand-drawn animated feature film since they lost their minds and decided to go purely digital. Yet that information pales to the fact that the princess in Princess and the Frog will be black. Some may say, "so what." Others my say, "it's about time." Still others might say, "she'll just be a token." My perspective is that in the world of Disney, black characters have been virtually nonexistant. While I'll hold my final opinion until the film debuts, I perfer to be optimistic rather than pessimistic. After all, the only constant is change.WilliamAn aside: Disney, for those who may not know, is now owned by Steve Jobs and Pixar. It was Jobs and Pixar who determined that digital 3D animation is not what Disney was about and determined to return the studio to what it once was.
