I came across a couple of quotes made by Boondock's creator, Aaron Mcgruder:On the topic of race and ethnicity, McGruder said that to him, Obama is not black because he is not a descendant of a slave."The person who is one of us in the White House is Michelle Obama and her momma," McGruder said.Really folks. Did the racist mentality that created the Jim Crow south make distinctions between blacks born in Africa and blacks who were decendants of slaves? Did the bigoted power structure that supported restricted covenants in the North aim to repress only blacks who were born in the U.S. as opposed to those born in Africa? As Obama pointed out in his inauguration speech, less than 60 years ago, in a different America, his father would have been denied a cup of coffee in certain places. No white would have cared if he was Kenyan.McGruder's point is irrelevant and irrational. When I arrived on the planet Earth decades ago and adopted my present human disguise, some pale-skinned humans shouted racial ephitets at me, particularly the commonly used term that begins with the letter N.These humans never asked me what part of Earth I came from, or whether I was even human for that matter. All they saw was my dark epidermis and facial characteristics that have commonly been described as Africoid.Mcgruder is overthinking this matter of who and who is not an authentically African American. He should stick to his Boondocks world.
