This review is solely about the first ten minutes of AFTER EARTH, the Willard Smith film as Black people I think we should be rejoicing about.
On so many levels this is a film that the BLACK community should be on board with. MOST of you at one point have outwardly complained about the lack of Blacks being represented in the future view of science fiction, this single film is the beginning of that trend and how you respond to it dictates what comes in the next four years of film making and there after. Oh and by the way it is not a direct remake of anything that has been produced prior to its entry into the market.
AFTER EARTH Delivers n glorious detail everything you have been asking for
Big name Black movie star
Cast with a Black woman as a wife
Cast with a Black child
Cast as the hero extraordinaire
Cast with Black sounding voices not fake British voices or perfect English
Blacks are not comic relief in this film.
This will lead both sides of Hollywood asking "What do they want? We gave them what they have been asking for; there is just no pleasing them we are going to stick with what we know will work."
Everyone that has pooped on this film - go pound sand. I will get back at you about the rest of the film as I go
