Black Superheroes: Marvel Comics

By LeVar Anthony
Black Panther: His real name is T'Challa and he is the King of an African Nation long hidden from the rest of the world. Being isolated they made advances in technology far beyond that of the outside world. He is currently married to the X-Men member Storm. He was created by Stan Lee and Jack "King" Kirby in July 1966; this predates the founding of the Black Panther Party that was created in October 1966.
Power Man: Even though he was born Carl Lucas he goes by the name Luke Cage. His character was created in the 70's and he was often teamed up with Danny Rand, the Immortal Iron Fist. Luke Cage is currently married to Jessica Jones. The nephew of Francis Ford Coppola, Nicolas Kim Coppola changed his name to something a bit more familiar. He goes by the name Nicolas Cage. Luke Cage was also a leader of the Avengers; he uses his Super Human strength and steel hard skin to aid the team in crisis.
Bishop: He is the X-Men team member from the future, a future where Mutants are hunted and locked away forever. Bishop himself is apart of the XSE (Xavier's Security Enforcers) a team that polices evil mutants. Bishop also had a sister called Shard; she died via a Vampire like infection. With his ability to absorb kinetic energy he can redirect that energy and fire them through his hands.
Blade: Blade made his first appearance in the comic book series Tomb of Dracula #10 1973. He appeared through out the series here and there on numerous occasions. His first solo story was in Vampire Tales #8 1974. I was one of many Marvel Horror titles done in bland and white. Through out his adventures he has teemed up with a number of comic book heroes such as Ghost Rider, Morbius: the Living Vampire and even Spider-Man. Blade is a Dhampir, or half-breed, born of a Human mother and Vampire father. In the under world of demons and vampires he is more commonly known as the Day Walker.
Misty Knight: Misty Knight was an officer in the NYPD. She lost her arm preventing a bomb attack and rather than having a desk job she resigned but Tony Stark gave her a bionic arm giving her super strength. She has had many adventures with Power Man and Iron Fist as well as the X-Men. Misty Knight teams up with Colleen Wing and together they appeared in a mini series called Daughters of the Dragon.
Night Thrasher: Night Thrasher was born Dwayne Taylor and he is the leader and founder of the New Warriors and head of the Tyler Foundation. His origin is almost the same as Batman's as his family was murdered in front of him and he set off the fight crime. He was later killed in a horrific act told in Marvel's Civil War and some time after the series was over a new Night Thrasher appeared. It was reveled to be his illegitimate half brother Donyell Taylor.
War Machine: War Machine is James Rhodes the friend of Tony Stark. As Tony Stark was battling alcoholism James Rhodes took over the mantle of Iron Man. After a while he obtained from Tony the War Machine armor. Rhodes was a lieutenant in the US Marine Corps until Tony Stark hired him to be his personal pilot. War Machine is also a trainer to new heroes in the Avengers: Initiative, a program created by Tony Stark in all 50 states to have a Super Hero team in all 50 states.
