A charmed longtime bar owner discovers that his understated Southside Chicago watering hole is the home for galactic phenomena.

A goddess, a war veteran and the captain of a spaceship meet in a bar...

We've all went to bars and met unique, quirky personalities. But what happens when seemingly ordinary people are quite extraordinary? This film follows several not so ordinary regulars of a bar that's become a home for the galactic and well-traveled.

A sci fi film with Afrofuturist themes,Bar Star City looks at love, deception, memory and alienation amongst a group of bar regulars who just want a place to call home.

Think the TV classic Cheers meets Funkadelic's Maggot Brain meets that funny dream you had last night that you decided to keep to yourself.

I am the author of the book Afrofuturism: The World of Black Sci Fi & Fantasy Cultureas well as the sci fi book Rayla 2212. My previous films (The Engagement, Love Shorts) are romantic comedies and screened with much success at The American Black Film Fest (The Engagement was nominated for Best Film) and the Black Harvest Film Festival among others.

However, after writing Afrofuturism, I decided that I wanted to do a film that looked at the phenomena and sci fi possibilities all around us.... especially in our urban haunts.  I have a great crew of people who are ready to start shooting. We're looking for your help to fund production for our feature film so we can wrap shooting this winter. (Fortunately we shot the water scenes before Lake Michigan morphs into ice city...you know how those Chicago winters are.)

Funds will help with our production and we're gearing up to shoot as soon as possible. This film is a fun one. While we are highly resourceful (we're really proud of our resourcefulness), we do need your added contributions.

I would like to thank all those who worked on the trailer, too. Christopher Adams of Impakt Studio was the DP. Harold Dennis, Khleo Morris, and Daryl Satcher starred in the project. Aisha Murph was associate producer. The renown musician Renee Baker and Leon Q provided the music of mystery, with Renee playing the viola and Leon Q playing trumpet. Thanks to Kenny Johnson for allowing us to shoot at the Velvet Lounge in Chicago (Thanks to the staff, too). Thanks to Chrishon Lampley and Tiffany Taylor for donating fine wines from Love Cork Screw.

Oh, and I'm the writer and director. My mission: I want Bar Star City to bridge the art, other worldly, the here and now and the laughably ironic in a visual explosion that splashes all over your glowing screen.

SPLASH.

Then we can spur some talk about all those in between moments marked somewhere between reality, the absurd, and the imagined.

SPLISH SPLASH

We're really excited about this project. I can't wait for you to see the entire film and meet the other characters and their tall spaced out tales. We're aiming to create an intriguing work that piques curiousity and explores new possibilities in familiar and not so familiar worlds. Thanks for the consideration.

Join the fun and take a sip.

Cheers,

Risks and challenges

My team is dedicated to getting this film out to the world. The biggest challenge is usually completing the film. What prevents a film from being made? Lack of resources. However with your support and our resources this film will see the light of day. We are uniquely prepared to support marketing, distribution and provide all talents needed to get this project out to fans and friends.
