Kevin Clash Cecil Singleton

UPDATE 11/20/13, 4:55 p.m.:

In a New York press conference held on Tuesday afternoon, second accuser Cecil Singleton now says that while the voice of Elmo, Kevin Clash, did NOT have sex with him at the age of 15, which his lawsuit originally alleges, Clash did in fact engage in “groping, masturbation, intense kissing, [and] dry-humping, according to TMZ.

Sexual intercourse allegedly took place years later, Singleton claims, when he was an adult.

In a surprising turn of events, now a second accuser, Cecil Singleton (pictured below), has stepped forward, alleging that the voice of Sesame Street’s beloved ElmoKevin Clash (pictured above), also had sexual relations with him while he was a minor. This comes only just a day after first accuserSheldon Stephens said that he was sticking to his original accusation that he did indeed have sex with Clash when he was 16 years old, according to TMZ.

Suing Clash in federal court, Singleton, who is reportedly in his 20s, claims that he was 15 years old when he met Clash over a gay chat line in 2003.

Singleton says, “[Clash] trolled gay telephone chat line rooms to meet and have sex with underage boys.”

And adds that Clash “preyed on” teen boys, “[Clash] prey[ed] on teenage boys to satisfy his depraved sexual interests.”

While the alleged sexual abuse occurred 20 years ago, Singleton claims that he decided to sue now because he “did not become aware that he had suffered adverse psychological and emotional effects from Kevin Clash’s sexual acts and conduct until 2012.”

According to the NY Times, the second lawsuit seems to have prompted Clash to put resign from Sesame Street. On Tuesday, Sesame Workshop released the following statement:

Sesame Workshop’s mission is to harness the educational power of media to help all children the world over reach their highest potential. Kevin Clash has helped us achieve that mission for 28 years, and none of us, especially Kevin, want anything to divert our attention from our focus on serving as a leading educational organization. Unfortunately, the controversy surrounding Kevin’s personal life has become a distraction that none of us want, and he has concluded that he can no longer be effective in his job and has resigned from Sesame Street. This is a sad day for Sesame Street.

Singleton is suing for a reported $5 million.
