Earliest African contribution to space travel

I was reading the history of space travel i started by reading up on the early rocket scientist Wernher von Braun.

Im seeing that the early history of rocket science was dominated by Germans under the Nazi regime.

So I wondered if there was any early African contribution to the field and while not a rocket scientist or an earlier contributer i came to this guy. Ave Kludze

so does anyone know of other early African or African American contributer to rocket science?
