Suibadoshi Heavy Industry, creation of the two man team of Artist Kogoro Kurata and Robotics Engineer Wataru Yoshizaki, have successfully built a 13 foot tall, 4.4 ton, Diesel Powered Robot called Kuratas.

SPEC

Height : about 4,000 mm / Width: about 3,000 mm / Length : about 4,000 mm / Weight : about 4,500 kg
Control system : AE V-sido

Retail price $1.3 million

Kuratas has over 30 hydraulic joints that allow it to freely move its arms, legs, and torso. It can fire water bottle rockets and fireworks, and its 6,000 round-per-minute BB gattling guns are controlled with the pilot’s smile; part of Yoshizaki’s V-Shido (read like bushido, as in "way of the samurai") control system. In order to get around, the four-legged mech uses ordinary wheels, but the Suidobashi team wants to get it walking in order to navigate uneven terrain.

"KURATAS" is an art piece. It is not a normal vehicle, and it doesn't guarantee your safety or comfort. However, it does make your dreams of becoming a robot pilot come true." - Suibadoshi Heavy Industry

I think this is a pretty cool innovation.  I mean...we always knew advanced robotics was just around the corner, and laser development has been improving a lot within the last decade.

Even though the designers make it clear that this is more or less an oversized toy, it lays the ground work for more.  I don't think it would be a fairly complicated matter to buy one, put in a stronger engine, get better tires, and improve the suspension.  Someone with a bit more knowledge of hydraulics could probably explain what would be need to improve the arm strength.

So what do you think about the wave of the future BSFS?
