Born on January 7th, 1891, Hurston penned 5 novels and more than 50 published short stories, plays, and essays, becoming one of the first black women to enter the American literary canon. For a limited time you can watch a free preview of Zora Neale Hurston: Jump at the Sun, which Newsday called an “exhilarating portrait of an exhilarating woman.”
