Keeping it Brief- A Writer's Query

I am an aspiring writer. And I have a wordiness problem. There I've said it. Some writers I know can't get their stories over the hump. They hit a wall and tire out around 40K. I'm the opposite. But the reality is, whether through major publishing houses or self-publishing, excessive wordiness (and hence excessive pages) for someone with no name recognition can make a would-be reader avoid your unknown "masterpeice." So for experienced and aspiring writers out there, what are some tips you can share--if any--about using less to say more.
