There are lots of distinctive art styles in the realm of fantasy/sci-fi. The most well known of them, arguably, are Disney(European) and Anime(Asian). Although I am a big fan of these styles, I am always the consummate Afrocentrist and think and critique the world from that point of view.
I envision a time when there is a distinctive art style that embodies the best of peoples of African descent. something that a great many of us can focus on and create, produce and distribute world wide.
I am working on my own fantasy world, but that is just a beginning so that I can have the experience and self-training to be able to contribute to a larger group. I am always meditating on seeing Africans joining together and forming our own international consortium of artists, producers, audio and visual engineers, actors and all the other human components of a large cooperation. Maybe like 2-4 major studios that produce high quality animation and live action movies. The economic, social and psychological potential is mind boggling.
Our history has unlimited stories of epic hero and sheroism. Our present and future has the same. It is very imperative that we control the way our images are distributed. It is very imperative that we know that it will take the death of our individual egos and the birth of the Collective Individual - Working together to achieve our goals as individuals - to achieve this. Seeing my people achieve our potential is just as important and, most times, more important than me shining alone. As bright as I know i can be, "Our" brightness is exponentially greater.
Here's to putting out in the Universe my dream of seeing such a prodigiously edifying movement come to light.
I Am because We Are. We Are because I Am. That is one of many mottoes that must be taken if we are to rise to the occasion.
Unconditional Love to my Sisters and Brothers Always and Forever.
