Monthly Book Read

I know we've talked about this before, but I'd like to bring up the subject again.

I was thinking that we should have a monthly book read featuring BSFS members books. We should have four categories:

  • Fantasy (example: Meji Book One)
  • Science Fiction (example: Chronicle of the Liberator)
  • Horror (example: Method Man)
  • Action-Adventure (example: Dillion and the Voice of Odin)

We select from 4 books. Then the following month, from the 3 remaining books, then so on. After all 4 books have been read, we pick from a refreshed category. Graphic novels, comic books, and Young Adult are fine as long as it meets the criteria of the 4 categories.

After book has been read, we post our reviews on Facebook, Amazon, Goodreads, Shelfari, Barnes & Noble, Borders or other review sites to promote the author. We can also have a discussion with the author to talk about his/her book.

To avoid having authors shout, "Pick my book', the books for the 4 categories should be selected by one person (preferably by someone who isn't an author). Then the majority vote decides which of the 4 we should read each month.

Some will ask, "Why can't we pick books outside of BSFS members?" The point of the monthly read is strictly to help promote awareness of BSFS members.
