Trayvon Martin found guilty!
court- by E. Hughes

This will be my only comment on the Trayvon Martin trial, in what has become a polarizing

topic in America. You’ll note, I didn’t call it the George Zimmerman trial for a reason.

The Florida justice system handed its verdict down today on Trayvon Martin and the answer wasn’t at all surprising to those of us who were paying attention. For one, the case was botched from the beginning, in an investigation where the only evidence was a dead body and a bloody nose. But let’s put the disputed back story behind us for a moment. The prosecution failed to present enough evidence in court because there was none. That couldn’t be helped, but they also failed to present expert witness testimony to rebuttal the expert witnesses presented by Zimmerman’s defense – which ultimately strengthened the defense’s position. This was one person’s version of events against another’s, only one of them wasn’t alive to tell their side of the story. In the end, for America’s black youth, the answer was loud and clear: We are disposable.

For those who may be wondering why America’s young black youth are upset and frustrated tonight, it is because they feel the verdict of the Trayvon Martin trial gave every racist crackpot in America a free pass to shoot them, on the grounds of simply fearing their presence. The fear is illogical, and they know it. But they have taken root. Racism is, and will always be America’s greatest failure. It will overshadow every accomplishment, it will overshadow every good deed until the hearts of men change for the greater good. Racism is America’s great shame. When race is a factor, we live in a country that doesn’t seem to know right from wrong.

The Trayvon Martin case was never about George Zimmerman. It was always about America’s fear of black youth, whether Trayvon was truly menacing, violent, even in the face of being stalked by a suspicious stranger on his way home from the store. So there it stands, a trial not about the murder of a teenager, but whether that teenager deserved to be murdered.
