Pop's ADVICE:On Meeting Women

My son Hassan, who is 18,soon to be 19 Dec.12,asked me about meeting women.I told him about when I was 17 at a friend's cookout,my eyes fell on this beautiful girl, who had looked like Thelma from the TV show "Good Times"(seriously,at least to me).

I tried hard not to "Manson stare"at her,but it was enough for her to notice me and man, when we locked eyes,my heart liked to jump out of my body. She was standing alone, watching her homegirls dance and I just walked up to her and said,

"I don't mean to be staring at you,but you're very pretty."She said,"Thank you."

I jokingly said,"NO!!!Thank you."She said "Oh,brother."

I said,"Was that corny?"She said yes.

I said,"I had to say something to you, what's your name?"Now mind you,I learned about "talking to girls" by watching my two older brothers. To me,it looked so easy for them.

She said her name was Carla.I told her my name is Fred.

"Fred?Like Fred Sanford?Fred Flintstone?"

I said,"I'll be all of them for you, baby."

She said,"Oh brother,how old are you?"I told Carla I was 17.

She said,"Fred,I'm 23 with a boyfriend."

I said,"Damn he's lucky. Are you taking any applications?"That line always worked for my oldest brother,Tony.

She said,"That's the worst line I ever heard."

"That was corny too,hunh?"

Carla said,"You're cute.Boy go get me a soda."

Even though I didn't get "the digits",I learned a lot from that meeting.

I learned:

1.Establish eye contact, but don't stare at her like you're using The Force on her.Just be coy enough to get her to at least look back.

2.Say something. No matter how stupid or corny.I found that saying something is way better than just gawking at her.(Hello...Excuse me...)NO TOUCHING!

3.Admit your corniness.I found, after saying a corny line, ask her "Was that too corny?".Great ice breaker.

4.Ask her name.Remember her name.I found that people,in general, are impressed with someone with a great memory.

5.The best meetings are one on one.SOMETIMES HOMEBOYS CRAMP YOUR STYLE!They interrupt the flow, try to clown you or act rude.(usually they are afraid of talking to women themselves).

6.MOST IMPORTANT!Look forward to being rejected. The reason some of us don't follow through in our lives is the we have a fear of rejection, being turned down or being ignored. The greatest confidence builder is to face those fears head on.I still dare myself. The worst feeling in the world is to be rejected or what I call being "dropkicked",because it feels someone kicked you in the chest(yes,I have been dropkicked before).Enough rejections will make you impervious to your fear(s) enough to "move on to the next one" and move on with your life more gracefully.

No disrespect to women, but meeting women can be like casting a fishing pole into fresh water.Someone's gonna' take the bait. But you have to cast that line.-PEACE!
