Professor Derrick Bell, author of "Space Traders" (which was adapted for HBO, in "Cosmic Slop," introduced by George "P-Funk" Clinton), passed away on October 6, 2012 (some sources also say Oct. 5th).  He was 80 years old.  Professor Bell was also a strong advocate for equality, resigning from his position at Harvard, to protest a lack of women of color in tenure.  In addition to Harvard, Mr. Bell also was law professor and mentor to many, at The University of Southern California (USC), New York University (NYU), and The University of Oregon.

Here is a tribute written for Professor Bell, by Trey Ellis, on the Huffington Post: My Sci-Fi Connection with Derrick Bell
