Regeneration in Fiction

The ability to regenerate lost limbs, or heal from injuries is commonplace in both Sci-Fi and Fantasy.  However it is usually one of many powers and not examined by itself.

If a person had the ability to regenerate, what would the implications it would have on their life?  What are common problems with regeneration that you notice in film or books?

Oftentimes in fiction, limbs regenerate quickly, but not hair.  Shouldn't hair constantly be growing for a person who can regenerate?

Likewise, shouldn't nails grow very quickly?

Would a sister who puts a hot iron to her hair be disappointed to see it quickly return to it's naturally curly state?  Likewise would a sister who gets a perm find that no chemicals on earth could indefinitely relax her hair?

Typically in fiction, when a person regenerates, their broken bones move back into place without needing to be set.  If a person regenerates don't broken bones create a great risk of improper healing if they aren't set?

Humans build muscle by tearing the old muscle, and growing new muscle in it's place.  A person who regenerates should either A) be able to reap very quick results from work outs due to their muscles rebuilding quickly or B) not be able to benefit at all due to their muscles regenerating to the same state prior to the work out.

Where does the body mass from all this come from?  Does a person with the ability to regenerate have a highly efficient body from which they can get all of the energy needed for the healing process simply by breathing air?  Or do they need to consume a large amount of protein and carbohydrates?

Does a person become masochistic, or more injury prone because they can regenerate?

Does regenerative ability preclude the need for lotion and moisturizer as skin is more efficiently replacing the oils that would lead to dry skin?

Anything you can think of is fine.  I'm trying to write a book, and I'd like for people to point out as many inconsistencies and/or overlooked aspects of regeneration as possible.
