Okay so it wasn't exactly a lyrical war but it did raise some eyebrows as it unfolded!
Those that know me are aware of my disdain for most of Gangsta (C)rap and will not find my response to this situation surprising!
As the heated exchanges went back and forth the old Snoop Dogg emerged from way back before the family reality show and reared it's ugly head!
Of course in the newly jacked narrative many in the Hip Hop community turned this into a black and white thang as Snoop is a black male rap legend and Iggy is the white girl from down under... That's Australia for the uninitiated!
Lost in the translation was the blatant sexism and misogyny on Snoop's part that went so viral that eventually T.I. had to call him up to squash the beef ASAP!
Before that L.A Lakers player Nick Young had to ride or die for his boo as he is currently dating the female rapper... This had to be and awkward situation for Nick as a native of Los Angeles Snoop's home turf and probably a fan of west coast rap in general!
I am the strength coach of the high school basketball team where Nick went and have only seen him there once but never met him personally... I will offer my support if it ever comes up along with why he ditched out on meeting the team one day and he better have a great excuse like Iggy wanted him to rub oil on her at a beach in Australia! Lol
Be there for the kids Nick... And bring your lady to a game for a halftime show (smile)
This is the problem with dissing women in general is that they not only have rights unto themselves but they may also have boyfriends, brothers or husbands that do not take too kindly to ignorant men and get dragged into stupid situations that never should have happened in the first place!
What Snoop's act shows is that rap in all it's strip club music glory has not grown up yet as it should!
The talk now is what exactly did T.I. say to Snoop that made apologies mandatory... T.I. apparently is Iggy's mentor so this could have erupted into something similar to the east coast/west coast rivalry and gotten out of hand considering that T.I. challenged champion boxer Floyd "Money" Mayweather to a fight that involved T.I.'s wife a while back!
Hopefully nothing threatening was said over the phone and cooler heads prevailed because both dudes have entourages of cats that can at times play for keeps!
BUT... In the near future as some entities like the NFL began to crack down on abusive men artists should take note that Rihanna's song was removed from the NFL telecasts due to her association with domestic violence during the Chris Brown era in response to the Ray Rice drama!
Rihanna was the victim but nevertheless the NFL distanced itself from her meaning that they don't want all that extra work they just want to get back to football!
This could also mean that rap music with demeaning lyrics could be banned from being played at games... Beats by Dre are already against policy for business reasons and if the right persons dig into Doctor Dre's past catalogs of hits could very well hold him accountable for actions he took against women then!
Snoop is a Dre prodigy and could be linked to him if they wanted to nitpick and be done with them all!
Don't block your blessings with ideals that can make you a pariah in the long-term and have fans dissociate from you as pressure against you builds!
Snoop Dogg is one of the best rappers ever and should be above this by now as a family man
and many are willing to forget past transgressions including his help instigating the whole eats coast/west coast feud at The Apollo Theater way back when Suge Knight set it off!
The late Delores Tucker crusaded against rap music and warned them of their ways and the last thing you want is to have a larger portion society going after you harder than she ever did and with more support to back it up this time!
At some point the last nail in the coffin of negative rap will be hammered... It's not a matter of IF but WHEN!
