[1] The Dred Scott Decision

[2] The American Civil War / Reconstruction

[3] Slavery / Emancipation

[4] The African American Civil Rights Movement

These historical events serve, among others, as foundation cornerstones of the history of black people in America. The legacy of these events still has a major impact on American social-political life today. How challenging would it be to incorporate one or more of these tumultuous events into a high tech science fiction novel? How would an author even market such a book in these times?

On numerous occasions, I have asked myself these questions. At times, I have wondered if this endeavor is worth the effort. The answer that has always come back to me is a resounding yes. This is my part in promoting the achievements of black people and other minorities in this country, even knowing that many historical achievements by black people and minorities have been marginalized or ignored altogether. Yet, I am determined to make this project work.

May I safely assume that many of you authors here have expressed similar concerns in one way or another concerning your own work? Even if a “few” people should read my work, I can enjoy a sense of accomplishment. I am thus motivated to continue this project. Over the years, friends and associates have told me to continue despite the negativity. As people of various other ethnic cultures are proud of their history and heritage, I am proud of my cultural heritage as well. You see, my ethnic roots did not begin in 1620. My ethnic roots go back thousands of years to ancient Egypt and beyond.

Thus, this is my contribution to our history. I would love to hear your thoughts as well. Peace.
