When I was a child I applied kid logic to politics and it made sense for me. What I did not understand about that formula was the role of the US government is to provide for those that can not provide for themselves; be they unable to or unwilling to does not matter. With that as a known factor I am loathe to see businesses and its wealthy owners deny assistance to those that need it the most. It is almost and Scroogist approach to reducing the surplus population by not feeding or caring for them while adding the phrases "do it yourself or get a job" to the insult.
At BSFS I have learned that we are doing it for ourselves. I understand the internal hesitancy and desire to keep this a Black people thing or open to those that understand this is one group that does not need the anointed blessing to exist, function, improve and persist in our being. So to speak - we got it covered.
I look back at the dissolution of great organizations that became polluted by influence from power hungry male ideology. I say to those that strive to lead: start your own thing or work really hard to get your ideas enacted, seen, heard and understood over a 10 year period while maintaining a family and home coercing like minded people to listen and follow you, at that point you will have what you seek. In the meantime dont tear down what another man/woman has built because of indifference or petty desire.
As a young adult I was confused at why people were inherently selfish, (still dont know why), as a maturing adult I understand a lot of selfish behavior is motivated from fear and ignorance. Fear is a motivator, ignorance is the anchor that keeps it in your life. Eliminate fear from your journey and you reduce the weight of the unneeded anchor that stops you from proceeding on your journey.
On the journey of life we are always seeking ways to keep our voyage and our cargo balanced just right, to keep the boat afloat. One of the things we need to keep reminding ourselves about is our value. I am not saying our cost or what we charge, I mean what do we bring to each encounter in our journey. As we proceed in establishing our value it is further important to not let our ego lead.
To some this is simple and easy to follow, for others this is news. If you are not certain how to bring value to each encounter in your life try becoming a journeyman in someone else's high value project, preferably someone that you trust. Realize that all people do not follow this philosophy, you will learn to see them for what they are. remember, people move to their most base nature overtime.
