The next time you boot up your computer download the free demos of the best software and practice until you perfect your game and leave the excuses in the graveyard where they belong... Free tutorials on youtube all day every day!
If money is tight save up while you hone your skills on the demos until they are ready for public consumption and then charge people a grip for your work later!
Zbrush, Lightwave, Vue, Maya, etc... Put them crayons away Black Sci-fi personnel and be the tech savvy geniuses that you were meant to be!
I might take one of his courses at the Gnomon School just to TROLL him relentlessly... I have class clown skills unmatched that he is not ready for!

In hindsight I wish I had spoken to that black guy at Stan Winston's Studios just to get a name and a bio but we are out there somewhere in the industry and need to be known for what we can do on all levels of entertainment!
