How many times has someone very insecure spoke these words to you as you uplifted yourself or bettered yourself with education or other levels of raising your living standards?
It could be Haters from the sidelines who sit and watch as you get that long deserved promotion or extra large payments for hard work or you moved to a more quieter upper class neighborhood!
Once upon a time "When We Were Kings" black people had empires, nations and entities that were doing it real big on the world stage and since slavery was abolished we have had to struggle to get any advantage we earned by due diligence and perseverance!
With oh so many black celebrities, black athletes and black politicians pushing the millionaire/billionaire mark there are those who deem them either sell outs or are too good to hang with the common folk!
This can lead to someone not so secure in their own status to make the statement "You Think You Are Better Than Me" or some variance of that phrase depending on the size of the crowd doing the Hating at that time!
Usually when someone says this to me I respond in the affirmative because I am above anyone who would be ignorant enough to make that statement and refuse to remain on that Hatorade level!
If I decide to put a team together of top black scientists to build a spaceship the very conception of my idea to do so places me light years ahead of any individual who chooses to remain behind during the process by default! Lol
Hater: "What are you doing over there?"
Flex: "Building a plaid light saber with a platinum handle and diamond encrusted bezel!"
Hater: "You think you are better than me!"
Flex: :DUH, yeah beyotch I am!"
Perceptions and world views can vary among men, women and children but if someone puts in hard work or even smart work and makes it big for themselves and their family either join in and assist them or step aside and eat popcorn while watching the show that they put on!
Saying to someone that they think they are better than you is belittling to yourself and drops your status lower than theirs... Lose that mentality it's soooooo last year!
Also agreeing with someone that you are no better than anyone else cuts into the prospect of you actually getting better!
Imagine if certain people lowered their standards to stay on that level so as not to hurt other people's feelings...

Michael Jordan: "I don't want to be better than you so I'll contribute just 3 points, 1 assist and play no defense whatsoever to make you feel like we are equal and sell the exact same amount of name brand shoes!"
Barack Obama: "FRAK being the President of the free world I want to stay a community activist and hang on the corner here with you guys to show I'm down!"
Oprah Winfrey: "Who needs billions I'm gonna stay eating BBQ at this picnic with yaw'll good folks here gossiping about the people I could be hosting on a popular TV show!"

Beyonce: "I'll be your 99th Problem if you marry me!"
