The Adventure Starship 100 year mission is an action fun filled science fiction novel.  The 100-year mission is the first in a series for the Adventure Starship.  It introduces the Adventure Starship, the characters and their personalities.

     The Captain and crew discover that their near light speed engines can provide them with power for shield, weapons and subspace communication.  The crew set out to prove that interstellar travel is possible with less than light speed propulsion.

The Crew encounters local aliens, distant aliens good and bad aliens after departing. They learn from them all.

Chapter 3

A Necessary Celebration

All Senior and Bridge officer are now resting in their

quarters. They have approximately nine hours before

they report back to duty and begin the final engine

shutdown. Rick is in his quarters and he realizes he is

not completely informed on what the plan is. All he

has been told by Darin was “we are going to kick their

ass”. He stands and walks over to the communication

system and signal Darin. (Rick) “Darin, how are we

going to blast the big warship? (Darin) We going to

use the shuttles, you have to help program the

navigation system before they launch. (Rick) Use the

shuttles to blow up the warship… Never mine. I have

a bottle of 50-years old Hennessy Cognac. (Darin)

How did you get it on the ship? (Rick) Don’t worry

about that, I got IT… Look I planned on sharing this

with everyone when we reach Alpha Centauri or

wherever. (Darin) Well this maybe wherever, maybe

you better share it now. (Rick) I got an idea; “let get

everyone together and crash the Captain quarters” You

know it big enough to have a great party. (Darin) Yea

man, he got couches, chairs and tables. We can even

party in the Gym if we have to many people. (Rick)

Man don’t be crazy we only going to get the Bridge

officers, the doctor and the astronomer. (Darin) Hey!

Let get D-Man to get everyone together. (Rick) Yea,

it’ll all be legal, and no one will get in any trouble.

(Darin) Let not call him on the communication system,

let’s just crash his room and convince him.

Darin and Rick show up at D-Man door. (Darin)”DMAN,

WE NEED TO SEE YOU!” the door opens

quickly and D-Man steps out. (D-Man) What

happened? Rick and Darin say to D-Man let step inside

for a minute and they enter his quarters. (Rick) D-Man

we need your help, you and Rod being friends since

grade school, we know you are the only person that can

make it happen. (D-Man) Make what happen? (Rick)

You know we going to meet that warship tomorrow

and kick their behind, I know that. But we want Rod,

China and you to celebrate tonight. Just a thirty to

forty minute celebration. We will make a toast to Rod

and his Bridge crew; we have a fifty-year-old bottle of

Hennessey. (D-Man) You guys are crazy but let do it.

(Darin & Rick) D-Man you the man! (D-Man) I will

call everyone in have them meet here in ten minutes.

We are only going to have a toast and then get back to

our quarters and rest up for this morning.

They all meet and are ready to crash the captain

quarters. Everyone is already having a great time. (DMan)

have everyone to wait a moment at the captain

door. China you going to go in first, we will be right

behind you. This way we will be in his quarters before

he can stop smiling or get pissed. (Everyone) Great

idea D-Man. China get ready to buzz the door and

everyone is closely behind her. Buzz, Buzz, Buzz –

(China say) Rod I need to see you. Everyone can here

Rod coming to the door. The door open and everyone

pile in and say surprise, surprise, surprise. Rod is

stunned and surprise and can’t say a word. He is not

looking very happy, everyone starts to wonder if it was

a bad idea to crash his quarters. China acts quickly she

pushed Rod to a seat and sit in his lap. She not going to

give Rod a chance to get pissed and put everybody out.

(China) Rod, these crazy guys and gals make me go

along with this and now I have to kiss you right here in

front of everyone. She give Rod a small kiss but it

turns into a long kiss. (Rod) Alright everyone this

better be a dam good quick celebrations. Since you all

are here we going to have our morning meeting, after

this celebration. (D-Man) There’s a lot of people here,

everyone can only have one once of Cognac to toast

with.

Ten minutes into the celebration Rod stands to get

everyone attention. First I would like to thank

everyone for your work, dedication and your

accomplishments. Also I would like to remind

everyone we only been out of space dock for three

weeks and already traveled 50 billion miles. This crew

feel like it been together for years and we will be in the

future. I want to take this opportunity to address our

status. While I don’t know what will happen tomorrow,

I know for a fact that this crew will be together for a

long time and will accomplish great things. This

doesn’t mean that you don’t have anything to fear, it

does mean that you should be confidence about what

we are doing and our mission.

As of this moment the Adventure Starship will not

pretend that alien don’t exists like the UES would have

us do. If we had listen to that nonsense we wouldn’t

know that big warship is on course to our location.

Now is the time to let everyone know what we are

going to do about it and how we will going to get ready

for it. A few of my officers and I have a great plan for

our defense. We have been reluctant to talk about it

because we wasn’t sure that it would work. Well we’ve

all in now no matter what.

A short time ago I told you that we would not be

able to use the shuttles because they have to be

reconfigured and that true. Our shuttle of amazing

they can fly in space, land on a planet and take off

again and return to space. Even the Adventure

Starship can take off from a planet several times and

return to space. They can do this because of the near

antimatter substance they use to blast off as in the old

days. Some of you may not know but this is the

resource that we obtain from the asteroid belt. Some of

our greatest scientist and engineer have work a lifetime

to do something with this stuff. Well Tommy, Darin

and I have figured something out, we’ve going to let it

blow up. Everyone else has worked to keep it from

blowing up and that proved almost impossible until a

short time ago.

Now everybody Ready your glasses for the toast. (Rod)

“Success to the Crew! Success to the Mission! And

many more celebrations.” (Rod looking at time

display) We have exactly seven hours and seven

minutes before we start our activities. Thanks for

coming, Thanks for the celebration.

“NOW EVERYONE RETURN TO YOUR

QUARTER AND PREPARE FOR TOMORROW.

THAT IN ORDER!”

Every one quickly leaves and returns to their quarters.

Rod and the officers feel very relaxed now. Feel like

they have accomplished a great task. Everyone

enjoyed each other company and strengthen their bond

with each other.

Rod felt a sense of satisfaction knowing that his crew

was ready willing an able, but most of all they believed

in the mission and they trusted Rod to complete it

safely for everyone.

The Adventure will be completely vulnerable during

some periods of the shutdown. Rod felt like there was

always an option to save everything an everybody. I

will just think through everything completely and look

for the best options. Most focus has been on the big

warship and very little on the paper tiger.

The information about the paper Tiger came through

non-official communication with Ariel aliens. The

paper tiger aliens acquired propulsion and weapon

technology more sophisticated than they were capable

of managing and maintaining. They were not

knowledgeable enough to operate it correctly either.

They were fortunate enough to acquire this technology

but they fought among themselves and pretty much

destroyed everything. There was several world wars

on their planet, but that didn’t stop them from trying to

conquer other aliens being out in space. A lot of times

they appeared to be lost in space, some aliens thought

they were just wandering trying to find their way back

home.

There was a simple modifications they

couldn’t make. They could not fire their weapon unless

their shields were down. Their shield had to be down

for ninety seconds when they fired. Because of this,

their ships had been damage or destroyed on every

occasion they attacked someone. However their

weapon was very powerful and they couldn’t resist

using it.

Rod decided to have Ariel people report to her

on the bridge during the engine shutdown. Any

information that we get might be helpful; also I have

officially thrown out that rule about not

communicating with aliens.

Rod walks over to the communication system and

signal D-Man. (D-Man answers) Captain is everything

all right? (Rod) Yes everything is alright but I want

you to setup a place on the bridge for Ariel civilians.

Make sure they are out of the way and instruct Ariel to

handle all their communications needs. It will no

longer be consider illegal or non-official to

communicate with aliens on this ship. It will be a

violation for any alien communication anywhere

except the bridge though. I want you to be in charge of

that communication and decide what if any can help

us. (D-Man) Will take care of that right now Captain,

now we making some sense we will use whatever

resources we can to make our mission successful.

(Rod) Thank you D-Man, Rod out.
