Lost

Loneliness and heartache had surrounded me

And everyone I asked about it, said “certainly”

What I felt inside, they gave me in spades

When the waitress poured my drink,

 She left in the lemons,

 But took out the –ade

The sun still brought day,

But withheld from me its sunny rays. Then

On a cold windy night beneath city lights

I saw her, standing on the corner

Staring at the sky, probably thinking of days much warmer

Buttoned up tight in pea coat and hat

Occasionally adjusting her footing in heels of black. Is she waiting for her ride?

Or just to cross the street?

I didn’t know but I knew, we had to meet

With her back to me I approached like a child

Tugged on her coat and presented a smile

“Excuse me miss but are you here to help me”?

She replied warmly “with what” and shrugged

And I said to her, “to find my way back to love”

She smiles…
