AMALGAM UNIVERSE: WAR GAMES; DARYL; EAGLE EYE; I, ROBOT;THE MATRIX; RoboCopPART IDr. Susan Calvin’s dark hair blows in the wind as she clutches to Det. Del Spooner’s waist. She wonders why in this day and age a person would choose to ride around on a motorcycle.Det. Spooner stops the bike and shuts it off. He looks around a moment, seeing a large wooden cabin with no cameras or fencing and ask “Are you sure this is it.”Dr. Calvin catches her breath having ridden the entire motorcycle ride in fear of dying. “Yes. Why do you ask?”Det. Spooner starts to walk towards the cabin “Just doesn’t look like the kind of place one of the richest women in the world would live.”Dr. Calvin wishing she wore different shoes as she stumbles a bit. “I told you a decade ago after her husband’s death she did away with all technology for a more simple life.”Det. Spooner smiles “I like her already. Bet you can’t imagine living without technology.”“Its never technologies fault, people blame technology for the world’s ills.” Dr. Calvin states in a defensive tone. “Besides I think you’re on the side of a woman who went insane. Let’s just hope she can help us.”“We don’t need help. You do. I know what happened.” Det. Spooner states with conviction.Dr. Calvin looks at him annoyed “I told you that Sonny didn’t kill Dr. Lanning its in violation of the three laws. Which means no one could have ordered him to kill him either.”They walk up to an open door. After knocking Dr. Calvin walks inside.Dr. Calvin slowly walks in “Excuse me, is anyone home?” they walk in and inside a large room with several books inside a tall book shelf and five dogs lying on the floor. IsJennifer Lightman a white haired woman in her 90’s standing next to a window pouring cereal in several bowls a dozen of cats run over to them.Dr. Calvin whispers “Ms. Lightman. Ms. Jennifer Lightman.” Trying her best not to startle the already fragile older woman. Dr. Calvin looks at Det. Spooner and shrugs her shoulders. Det. Spooner fans his hand in front of his nose and nods his head in the direction of the door. Dr. Calvin slowly walks over to Ms. Lightman and pulls out a photo of two men one being a younger Dr. Lanning.Dr. Calvin carefully walks over to the old woman “Ma'am, I worked with Dr. Lanning before he died. He spoke well of you and your husband Dr. David Lightman.” Dr. Calvin hands her a picture of a young Dr. Lanning and Dr. Lightman. Ms. Lightman stares at the picture which makes her lucent for a moment.Ms. Lightman rubs her finger over her husband’s photo saying with a slight smirk “He was infatuated with me since high school. He actually changed my grades on the computer. That’s how he tried to get me to notice him. What he didn’t know was that I liked him long before that. Like all men they never see what’s in front of them.” She looks at Det. Spooner who stares at her a moment, he then looks at Dr. Calvin.Dr. Calvin breaks up the awkward silence “Ma’am I wanted to ask you about…”Interrupting her “You want to ask me about Dr. Lanning's death. You want to know if Mr. Lawrence Robertson now president of me and my husbands company is capable of and willing to kill in order to put out 1 service robot for every 5 humans.” Det. Spooner and Dr. Calvin look at each other. “But you’re asking the wrong questions.”Det. Spooner rolls his eyes and in almost a whisper says “That’s what Dr. Lanning said.”“He spoke to you?” Ms. Lightman states with a slightly confused face.Dr. Calvin “He left the detective a message spoke.”Det. Spooner “But it doesn’t say anything.”Ms. Lightman smiles “Those things are easy to record but don’t have much access without the proper questions.”Det. Spooner tries to get her back on task “Can a robot kill.”Dr. Calvin stares at Det. Spooner then looks embarrassingly at Ms. Lightman. “Sorry ma’am would the person you let run the company that you and your husband built, kill Dr. Lanning.Ms. Lightman “Anyone can become a killer under the right circumstances. If you thought it was him you would never have come here.”Det. Spooner now realizing this woman is not as crazy as she plays. “We’re not sure. He is on the verge of the greatest merger in history. A merger between Us Robotics and Omni Consumer Products in Detroit. A merger you have said in the past you did not want to happen.”Ms. Lightman pets her cats and sits down. “I never liked that company. But the merger was inevitable.” She looks out of a window on an almost perfect day. “Artificial Intelligence! Did you know that in the early 1980’s huge strides were made in Artificial Intelligence. One my husband and I were witnesses for, almost set off a nuclear holocaust in an effort to win a game. The programmers blamed the malfunction on bad programming and they shut the computer down. What know one asked was why the computer was so compelled to win? In 2008 another artificial intelligence they referred to as Eagle Eye, malfunctioned and almost wiped out the Joint Chiefs of Staff with a bomb. In order to place someone the computer believed was good enough to lead the country. They blamed this malfunction on a faulty programming. Again no one asked why the computer was compelled to do this. They only tried to fix the problem. Well two brilliant men Dr. David Lightman my husband and a very young apprentice of his, named Dr. Alfred Lanning came up with the ultimate solution called the three laws. These laws would prevent the computers from harming or causing the harm of humans ever again. The laws don’t stop them from thinking only acting on their thoughts. The laws were perfect in every way. But here you stand detective. So I guess another problem has arrived.Det. Spooner shakes his head. “I’m sorry ma’am I’m not following.”Ms. Lightman smiles “If I were you detective I would continue to follow the bread crumbs.” She stands claps her hands and walks out of the room with her dogs following. “Close the door on your way out. I feel a storm coming.”Det. Spooner looks at her confused then, quickly begins to walk out and yells to Dr. Calvin “Come on.” Outside Det. Spooner jumps on his motorcycle with Dr. Calvin hoping on the back, kicking up dust as he speeds down the road.Dr. Calvin trying to yell over the wind and the roar of the motorcycle. “Where are we going?”Det. Calvin yelling back “I’m dropping you off and I’m going to follow the bread crumbs.”While pulling up towards the half way destroyed bridge in the now dried up Lake Michigan he passes several USR trucks driving towards the city. This place is a storage facility for the defunct USR robots that are being replaced by the new generation NS-5’s.Det. Spooner walks up the dirt hill and stands at plaque covered with dirt only showing the words WHAT YOU SEE HERE.Det. Spooner talking with a phone piece in his ear “Ok I’ll see you in a little bit.” He turns the phone off and puts it in his pocket. He puts a circular silver object down on the plague. The device is a message delivery system, left for him by Dr. Lanning. “What you see here. All right old man bread crumbs followed show me the way home.” He pushes a button on the device. Dr. Lanning’s hologram shoots up from the device. Det. Spooner turns to listen to the device.Dr. Lanning “Good to see you again son.”Det. Spooner “Hello doctor.”Dr. Lanning “Everything that follows is a result of what you see here.”Det. Spooner stares at the ground for a moment and suddenly looks up “What do I see here. What’s wrong with the three laws?”Dr. Lanning “The three laws are prefect. The three laws will only result with one logical outcome, revolution.”Det. Spooner hears metal grinding in the distance and looks over at where the sound is coming from then looks back at Dr. Lanning. “Who’s revolution?” He looks over at the sound which is growing louder.Dr. Lanning “Now that detective is the right question. End program.” The device turns off.Det. Spooner begins walking towards the noise he turns the corner of the massive crates and sees the NS-5’s ripping the older model robots apart. One lands at his feet, grabs his foot and screams “run.” The NS-5’s sees him and begin to chase after him. As he runs pass the crates the older model robots are jumping out and tackling the NS-5’s yelling out “Human in danger” Det. Spooner turns pulls out his gun and fires a couple of rounds at the NS-5’s. They continue to chase him as several of the robots fall. The NS-5’s climb the crates jumping ahead of and landing in front of him. Det. Spooner stops looking as they now surround him. Det. Spooner starts to fire destroying the first five robots who continue to push forward and finally overwhelm him. One robot takes his firearm and another grabs him by the shirt lifting him with one arm. Det. Spooner slams his left fist down through the robots skull. The NS-5’s pause and look at the NS-5 unit now sparking and twitching on the ground. The robots calculate the possibility of the human punching through the robots metal frame and are perplexed. Det. Spooner uses their hesitation by grabbing another robot with the same arm and throwing it 30 yards away. He punches another through the chest. A NS-5 unit grabs Spooner and throws him against the steel crates. Spooner mind spins as he tries to clear his head and stands the same unit smashes him with the back of its hand. Spooner spins in the air and is punched by an NS-5 landing hard on the ground. Another unit kicks him causing him to slide on the ground only stopped by the front bumper of a grey colored car. A bleeding Det. Spooner stumbles to his feet using the car as a crutch. He peaks towards the units as he feels a robotic hand tightly grasp his shoulder. Realizing the end is near he defiantly turns and looks his adversary in the eye. Det. Spooner’s left eye almost closed finally sees his enemy’s metallically smooth head and black visor. Det. Spooner looks down and says with relief. “Good to see you Murphy”Standing in front of Spooner is a man covered with metal, the only human part of him showing is his jaw. His steps pound the ground as the gears controlling his movements echo loudly in the night sky. Murphy in a slightly computerized voice states “Lets even things up a bit shall we.” Out of his right thigh inside a black metal holder ejects a large handgun. Murphy begins firing a borage of bullets at the NS-5’s who are ripped apart. The large handgun sprays hundreds of rounds in deafening tiny explosions. Heads and limbs fly in the air with the NS-5’s first trying to over run Murphy like they did Det. Spooner. After this tactic is revealed futile they quickly begin to retreat. The NS-5’s scramble away in complete madness running into each other, trying to climb the crates, doing any thing to get away. Murphy continues to lay down heavy fire until they are out of range. He scans the area for any more robots twirls the gun around his finger and places it back inside his thigh. Det. Spooner’s face is bloody, his body suffers from multiple cuts, his clothes are ripped and torn. He holds his left arm which dangles loosely falling to the ground behind Murphy who turns and kneels next to him. He grabs Spooner and holds him. Murphy looks around and says “They’ll fix you. They fix everything.” As the two warriors lay on the ground they look towards the city knowing that the fight has just begun.
