CHAPTER 3
THE SOOTHSAYER
“These boots are exquisite . . . in fact, they are beautiful beyond words,” said Abu Sunni.
“They were fashioned by Hakim Bey, a shoemaker and master craftsman who specializes in leather goods and gold and silver jewelry. He lives on the eastern edge of your fiefdom” answered Abdul Palmarez
“Hakim Bey, you say. . . I have never heard of him. . . . but he is indeed a master bookmaker. Even the Sultan himself would be proud to wear such boots,” said Abu Sunni
“I have heard of Hakim Bey,” interrupts, Zubair the Griot. “ He is not only a master craftsman. But a sooth-sayer as well. Allah has gifted him as a Seer. . . as one who can look into the future.”
“Is that so?” cried Abu Sunni. “Perhaps he can direct us on our journey to locate the Peeing Princess. The gypsy woman who first gave me counsel was unable to tell me anything more, but perhaps this Hakim Bey, The Sooth-Sayer, can provide us with additional clues”
“As well as provide you with a gold wedding band to test the Princess’s prowess and aim,” said Abdul Palmarez, “ I was amazed by Hakim’s little shop. Earrings, finger rings, bracelets – of gold and silver – all exquisitely crafted with the most intricate and artistic designs. Not to mention all sorts of shoes, saddles and leather bags”
