African Long Distance Trading

There is a misconception that Africa was cut off from the world prior to European contact.  Nothing could be further from the truth. Parts of Africa were very much engaged with the world.  One vibrant example of that engagement was the involvement of Africans in a thriving trans-oceanic trade network connecting East Africa to Asian states as far as China and Indonesia.
