Dark God’s Gift: Introduction - Existence
By H. Wolfgang Porter
Existence. What does it truly mean to ‘exist’? It is the question mortal creatures take for granted. Those incapable of conceiving of such a question carry on with their time doing only that which they ‘exist’ to do and nothing more. Mortal beings ‘are’ and can 'be' nothing else until by whatever means, they no longer exist.
But for beings which can not only bring forth so pertinent a question and then comprehend the multitude of possible answers, it is a thing that may drive a being to enlightenment or madness!
Gods and other entities beyond the mortal sphere (unless mindless or already mad) have little choice but to ponder the question. To exist eternally is equal to constant motion within a circle. Always, the end becomes the start and the start the end. At some point, such a being will lose track of where things begin and where they conclude for ultimately there is no such thing in an eternal existence.
Such is the state I find myself for my existence is eternal. Because I am aware of the ‘mechanisms’ of existence and have learned to use them to my own ends, I am called a ‘Dark God’.
In the place between Existence and Non-Existence, I arise from the firmament keeping these two destructive forces apart to stand upon ethereal shores made of that which is real and unreal. All about lie the unending lengths of chained universes sparkling in their strands which make up the expansive web containing everything that ‘is’.
Not long ago (by my reckoning,) I sent my creation into the web where it may learn and grow on a journey of discovery. Brushing the strands, as they gently ripple I see my ‘child’ the Trynaught within the many universes it currently exists.
My ‘gift’ to existence is proving to be worthy entertainment as it experiences the charms and curses which arise from being. Though the Trynaught can be considered an ‘eternal being’ as it exists in many places and times at once, I placed a strict ‘limitation’ upon it.
For all the Trynaught’s vast power and potential to understand, it may only do so within the rules of the universe it exists. Amidst the vast stars of one universe, it may be no larger than a dust mote. Among other universes, my child may bridge the distances between galaxies!
Such a limitation could prove to be that which will drive my creation to madness. But I am not completely cruel. I have given my creation the will to return to me in whatever state of consciousness it will become. Should the Trynaught come back enlightened, enraged or vengeful, I will be pleased.
However, though I am not completely cruel... I am cruel. Before the Trynaught may return to me, its task is to travel the vast web of existence from beginning to end. All the while learning and experiencing all that existence has to teach it.
Yet for as I am rightfully called a ‘Dark God’, there is a catch. Existence is vast. So vast, it can rightfully be perceived as ‘unending’. So as I said, ‘to exist eternally is to move in a circle.’ A smile crosses my being as I find humor at the possibility of whether my creation will come to understand the lessons existence will teach it. Most enjoyable is the possibility the Trynaught will at some time come to understand as I have the ‘trap’ it now exists and whether it can be unraveled. Only then will my child, my creation, my Trynaught be able to return fully fledged and face its creator.
In the meantime, woe unto those sentient or not which encounter the Trynaught. Though it was not created with malicious intent because it was tempered within the void of Non-Existence, the Trynaught is infused equally with the powers of light and darkness. Any power it may bring an existing being will ultimately come to no good. Any actions taken using its vast powers will end badly for the wielder. All the while depending on the universe the Trynaught travels through, such powers and such ends will dictate the magnitude and or severity of consequences from its passing.
The powers of creation and destruction will lie within the grasp of those who seek out, stumble upon or cross paths with my gift. How my child will respond to those beings shall provide me with endless entertainment!
Since an eternal existence is like moving in a circle, I move about the vast chains of existence perusing universes where my creation is at work. In time, I will have seen them all. But this particular ‘circle’ is large enough even for me to be unsure whether there is an ‘end’....
