The Influence Of "The Spook Who Sat By The Door"

I posted a link to the YouTube video of the screen adaptation of Sam Greenlee's novel The Spook Who Sat By The Door in the Videos section here. I read the book in high school and was immediately intrigued by the idea as well as the execution of the story as written.

In a way, I think Spook influenced my Darkside Universe. But instead of starting a national, racial revolution that even I think would be doomed to fail, especially in the context of the late 60s and early 70s. I postulated what kind of thinking would drive a group of Blacks in that same era who could, in fact, leave the US and go somewhere where Whitey had no influence whatsoever.

If Black men and women could find that place where whites could have NO influence, or threat, over that community, what would happen? How would that culture develop?

An earlier published novel, but one that I read after Spook, was Edwin Corley's Siege. It dealt with an armed insurrection fostered by Blacks in the US Military who secretly banded together and took control of Manhattan, demanding that the US Government set aside land for a Black state.

Both Spook and Siege were written as dramatic fiction, obviously. The Darkside series is speculative fiction, sci-fi by fiat because of the injection of Blacks able to leave Earth, but sociological drama just as well.  My point in writing this series was to take that small leap in imagination that allowed American Blacks to find their own way without the influence of American, largely white American, culture, the auspices of white entitlement or threat of reprisal for owning something that white people would normally beg, borrow, steal, or kill for.

If you've read either novel, or have comments about the movie posted in the video section here, I'd like to hear from you with your insights into the film or ideas of absolute exclusion of white influence in a Black community.
