Miles Davis the Movie with Don Cheadle

Don Cheadle portrays One of my FAV Traditional JAZZ Musicians MILES DAVIS. Looks to be great and what I expected. MILES DAVIS to me represented the FIRST of a new generation of BLACK MEN who had the attitude, the blessings to be raised, nurtured by parents and a community that were not held back by economic and/or mental slavery issues. understood and knew what power he had and how to weld it in 1950s-60s.

This week’s discussion topic is Cyberfunk and the subgenres Cypherfunk and Biofunk. The definitions of the three Categories of African American speculative science fiction is as follows

Cyberfunk - Like the genre from which it gains inspiration, Cyberpunk, Cyberfunk is a genre of Speculative Fiction centered on the transformative effects of advanced science, information technology, computers and networks (“cyber”) coupled with a breakdown or radical change in the social order. Unlike Cyberpunk, however, Cyberfunk is expressed through an Afrikan / Black lens (“funk”). Often possessing a dark, gritty and cynical tone, Cyberfunk includes elements of Film Noir, hard-boiled Detective Fiction and postmodern deconstruction.

Cypherfunk - is any African activist advocating widespread use of strong cryptography, the art of writing or solving codes as a route to social and political change. Cypherfunkateers communicate through some type of online electronic mailing list, informal groups aimed to achieve privacy and security through proactive use of cryptography. Cypherfunks as with their Cypherpunk counterparts, have been engaged in an active movement since the late 1980s.

Biofunk - is a subgenre of African American speculative science fiction that focuses on biotechnology. It is derived from cyberpunk/cyberfunk, but focuses on the implications A derivative of cyberfunk involving bio-hackers, mega-corporations, and oppressive government agencies that manipulate human DNA. Most often keeping with the dark atmosphere of cyberfunk, biofunk generally examines the dark side of genetic engineering and represents the low side of biotechnology. Common ideas of this sub-genre are biotechnologies in the context of the gap between the rich and poor, the value and nature of life and humanity, human enhancement, misusage of biotechnologies for social control and profit.

The Questions I pose to my creative writers and artists are:

1) Out of these three sci-fi genres defined above, which could bring forth greater creative expression, storytelling, timing, design and environment in your work?
2) Since the beginning of Black History Month we have discussed AFROFUTURISM, ROCOCA, STEAMFUNK, and DIESELFUNK. Which combination with CYBERFUNK (or any of its subgenres) would inspire creative motivation and why?

For me, I believe the BIOFUNK genre appeals to my creative energies best because it is the most diverse, subjective and timeless. Stories of cures for cancer, AIDS, mental illness and other more HUMAN issue can be addressed. I believe I could communicate the character’s anxiety of self, society and/or corporate misuse, through mood and relating it with the struggles african americans on both north and south continental scale. My second choice would be creating a CYPHERFUNK story. It would be a “challenge” but I am attracted to the idea of motivating social change through African centered GLYPHS, codes and the world wide web.

If I ever enter into a project involving a combination of genres, I believe my first choice would be a time traveling CYPHERFUNK/CYBERFUNK story. The characters would travel through time somehow to the STEAMFUNK era and for some unfortunate reason one of them would be trapped there for a minute. A bit “Octavia Butler” - ish, yes I know but I believe I could swing it to make it completely different yawn. Well, hopefully more than a yawn…. LOL.

Your thoughts, creative BSFS friendz, fanboiz and fangirlz, Afrikanist and Five per Centerz!

Queen mother Angela Bassett is a collective community favorite on the small and silver screens, playing some of our all-time favorite characters. Thanks to Bryan Fuller’s announcement as show runner for the new Star Trek television series reboot, the esteemed actress might be the franchise’s second black woman to playa Starfleet captain. Madge Sinclair was the first woman and black actor on screen as captain of the USS Saratoga. The show will be available on CBS All Access, the network’s online streaming service, in 2017.

Fuller is no stranger to the Star Trek universe. At the beginning of his TV career, one of his first gigs was writing episodes for Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. He then moved on to the Voyagerseries. A true fan of the show growing up, Fuller told EW, “My very first experience of Star Trek is my oldest brother turning off all the lights in the house and flying his model of a D7 Class Klingon Battle Cruiser through the darkened halls…It is without exaggeration a dream come true to be crafting a brand-new iteration of Star Trek with fellow franchise alum Alex Kurtzman and boldly going where no Star Trek series has gone before.”

Fuller, creator of Hannibal and Pushing Daisies, is a hire that the Trekkie community is excited about because of his passion for the show and it’s possibilities. Casting for Star Trek has not been announced, although he says Bassett would be his pick.

During an interview in 2013 he shared his idea of a dream cast for a Star Trekshow. “I want Angela Bassett to be the captain, that’s who I would love to have, you know Captain Angela Bassett and First Officer Rosario Dawson. I would love to do that version of the show but that’s in the future to be told.”

The blerd Trekkie community is crossing their fingers that Fuller hasn’t forgotten his dream now that he’s landed the position, starting the hashtag #CaptainAngelaBassett.

Time will only tell whether Bassett will be recording captain’s logs on her own starship in 2017. It never hurts to dream, and “fancasts” are making more of an impact than ever in the age of social media.

WHAT IS AFROFUTURISM

To a few of my creative friends, Peeps and associates I have posted this to their pages in various social media so All will be able to express their views of this term with transparency....

Question: What is AFRO - FUTURISM to you as One of its creators? Have posted My definition on My FB PAGE. Do you agree or disagree? How so? To you What factors warrant something to be LABELED under this Term or movement or YOUR definition of what it is?

What is AFRO - FUTURISM to you as One of its creators?

AFRO-FUTURISM is the AFFIRMATION that we as people of African descent are a visible, active and controlling hand in the future of this Planet and Realty.

To you What factors warrant something to be LABELED under this Term or movement or YOUR definition of what it is? I believe if it does not affirm, involve, reference or include anything of cultural, artistic and/or communal value to the continent of AFRICA, it does not earn the right to be called by that term. On a personal note (meaning MY personal opinion) the story may have other races and creatures involved but if the protagonist (main Character) is not of or from the Continent (Africa - pick your country) then it is JUST a INCLUSIVE futurist story... NOT AFRO - FUTURISM.

I state this because I hear, read and see this term starting to be sprinkled over social media and the BLACK FAN BOY/ GIRL sites. But have not really seen or for that matter AGREED with what the term is and about. I am busy personally defining and challenging my creative peeps to step up and give me feedback. Here is the beginning of a reading list provided by AfroFuturism849.com

This taken from the article posted on COMICBOOK.COM 12/02/2015

Adult Swim has just announced a new season of Samurai Jack to launch in 2016. The show will return during Adult Swim's Toonami block and is currently in production in Los Angeles.

You read that right folks, the 4 time Primetime Emmy Award winning series that has its roots in the early 2000's is back! Samurai Jack, created by Genndy Tartakovsky follows Jack, a samurai who travelled through time with the quest to head back to where he came from and defeat the demon Aku.

The show ended in 2004 but not before cultivating a die hard fanbase that has been clamoring for it's return for just over 10 years. Fans looking for their Jack fix got a small taste in comic form, thanks to IDW.

"I feel like it's culminating to a fever pitch almost." said Tartakovsky in a previous interview with ComicBook.com. "I feel like it's time to maybe finish the story. We've been trying to get the feature off the ground but maybe that's just fate's way of saying this is a television thing and maybe it should be a mini-series or something like that."

Ok Y'all, just add me to the list of peeps diggin' on Marcus Williams and Greg Burnham's TUSKEGEE HEIRS. Will offer what support I can because THIS is the type of thought, actions and deeds that our creative energies should be focusing on.

From the Facebook postings of Greg Burnham and Marcus Williams and their TUSKEGEE HEIRS Group.....

""Introducing "Tuskegee Heirs"

Synopsis:

Tuskegee Heirs is a futuristic sci-fi adventure that follows a small squadron of young gifted aviators who are forced to become earth’s last line of defense against a highly advanced military faction bent on destroying civilization as we know it.

Had this concept in my head for a bit and after some wonderful confirmation bestowed this weekend passed(speaking with some awesome kids), I know this needs to happen. The homie Greg Burnham and I will be pumping out the creative juices to bring this to as many eyes as possible in the near future...."

I say INDEED to the brothers who has taken a ROBOTECH-esque approach to a historical, AFRICAN AMERICAN institution and gave a it a DIFFERENT life's breath.

This has the Spirit of Hip Hop all through it. Something old, creating something new, something borrowed and I will assume the something blue will be the storylines this create team will offer. LOL and to clarify what I mean by "something blue" old school description of Life's problems. Blessings Brothers.

Wow! I was suprised to see that the BLACK PANTHER will make his debut into the Captain America/Avengers/Marvel Universe in the next CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR movie. Given just these two scenes in the trailer has a person wondering who's side he is on in this movie (if there is a side to be on). ANTHONY MACKEY as The S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Falcon, DON CHEADLE as War Machine and CHADWICK BOSEMAN as the Panther....

What? NO SAMUEL L. JACKSON? The Quota for BLACK MEN in a movie had been met?? LMAO! JKG Y'all! This should be a good film especially if it is anything like the former two which established that the "A" on Caps forehead had a lil' more meaning than just "AMERICA YO!"
