    About Me:

I'm PhD student in American Culture Studies. My research interests are in racial and gendered identity in 3D digital spaces--places like Second Life, World of Warcraft, The Sims, etc. I'm a pretty decent Star Trek fan, and even though my heart belongs to TNG, I'm getting caught up on DS9 and will eventually, I swear, watch Enterprise. Every time I try to watch it the horrible, ridiculous theme song makes me change the station. It's really almost an entirely involuntary response. Music starts...*click*. Sorry, Scott Bakula, maybe next time. I've recently become a fan of Farscape, but I will admit I'm really disappointed with the lack of brown people on the show. They're really good at getting non-humanoid creatures, but why is that all the Humans/Sebaceans are white? And why is that the only group of black folks in the universe are living on a planet that kills technology thus forcing them all to live in huts wearing coconut bras? Don't even get me started on how religion is dealt with in that episode! Apart from that pretty big drawback, there are terrific special effects and costumes that really exceed the scope of a normal television show.
