    About Me:

I'm an assistant professor at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln; I teach, read, and write about African-American literature. I have a special interest in cultural performances of epic mythology, and use a comparative methodology (traditional West/Central epic performances and European/American Homer) to understand race, class, nation, gender, afro-futurism (I've written on this), the rhythms of mythical possibility contained in music (hip hop, jazz, blues, rock, and even classical as manifestations of epic performance), sports ("epic" battles...), film ("epic" historical dramas, action films), and the like. My book project is _The Epic Trickster: From Sunjata to So(u)l_; my second novel (almost finished and ready for submission; it draws upon my study of epic performance and race in America) is _Whispers, of a Fire in the Forest_.
