About Me:
Kevin Sipp was born in Harlem, New York in 1966 and grew up dreaming in Daytona Beach Florida. As a child he was always known as “the drawer” and spent much of his childhood immersed in encyclopedias, album covers, picture books, fantasy/science fiction novels, movies and comics. He graduated from the Atlanta College of Art in 1991 with a B.F.A. in printmaking and currently works full time as a freelance artist and author in Stone Mountain Georgia USA. Sipp has been featured in several solo and group exhibits throughout the country and abroad. He is also a published poet and writer and has been a featured performance poet during the National Black Arts Festival of Atlanta, sharing the stage with such luminaries as Amiri Baraka, Sonia Sanchez and the poets of the Nuyorican Poets Cafe. He has also appeared as a featured poet on a hip-hop music production by rap and R& B music producers Organized Noise. In the early 90’s He was breifly the lead screamer for Atlanta based hardcore punk band CHAMBER, releasing one tape only recording. Mr. Sipp has been an artist–in residence at Caversham Printmaking Press in Balgowan, South Africa, at Brandeis University and Babson College in Boston and other art and educational institutions. Mr. Sipp has also worked as a set designer for Ballethnic Dance Company, a rap video prop designer, and a set designer for movies. In addition to his curatorial career Kevin has worked as a guest lecturer on various topics of the African Diaspora and a general art history. As an artist, curator, and writer Kevin’s interest range across the following topics: The Art History of African Diaspora Culture * General Art History * History of D.J. culture * Fantasy and Science fiction* History of comics and graphic novels * Afro-futurism and Blacklisted Mysticism. A listing of some of his artistic influences include The Pantheistic Universe, Anonymous Africanus, Romare Bearden, Renee Stout, Ron Pippen, Betty Saar, Christian Marclay, Joseph Cornell, Henry Dumas, Bad Brains and Sun Ra. Kevin Sipp is currently working on a fantasy based graphic novel set in the Post-Slavery Victorian Age of Colonial imperialism, THE AMAZING ADVENTURES OF DAVID WALKER BLACKSTONE
