Like the Griots of West Africa, African descended sci-fi writers have a story to tell. In my cultural eyes, and cultural identity I create heroes and heroines that resemble myself and those that have mentored me; whether directly or indirectly. Midnight writers such as myself do not wait for the pillars society to endorsement, or their stamp of approval, or their credentials. Because in doing so one may be subject to extreme limitations, and restrictions not only within the imagination, but the taboos placed on controversial topics may be a hindrance. Midnight writers wait for no one to set the standards as to what is considered a literary art form. The Griots of West Africa had no limitations when it came to the messages that were needed to be conveyed. I am the modern day Griot and a child of technology. My ancestors truly marveled at how things are done. Our keyboards have become the drums of the village. The World Wide Web encompasses an entire host of villages; it is our keyboards that announce the events in the various aspects of our existences. I give praise to those griots that have transitioned into the land of the ancestors; even from beyond they communicate their stories to those who are vibrating on the right frequency.
