About Me:
My name is Tya Keith. I am a comic creator of BLACK descent bent on putting out my own comic books with the help of publishers or not! A ream of paper. A box of pencils. A box of ink pens. One HUGE eraser! That's what it took to build PENDEKA PRESS. That was back in 2007. Since then, I've collaborated with several creators, come up with 15 comic titles, and created almost 100 superheroes, mostly out of REAL PEOPLE! Good deals of these heroes are BLACK! I started my 2nd ream of paper creating my first children's book, RED VELVET. She is a black female superhero that can fly! I am dedicated to finishing this 2nd ream to the end and seeing where it will lead. I have to thank all of my friends on the internet that I have made along the way for the inspiration and motivation. I was a diehard comic collector who dreamed of being a creator someday when I was young. I must admit with great sorrow: These days, the dollar value of comics doesn't match the entertainment value. I collected comics when I was young. NOW, they have become a lot like Christmas: It is all commercial! I remember when comics were fun. Now, it's all based on, sales, percentages, standards, and stats! They were no longer like baseball back in the day: done just for the love of the game. Thus, I stopped collecting comics. I figured if I wanted good comics, make my own! That, combined with the internet, PENDEKA PRESS was born! I decided to make comics fun again. How, do you ask: By turning real people on the internet into superheroes? In the beginning, I would convert my "victims" either against their will or without their knowledge. Yet, once they saw the results, they all accepted their fates whole- heartedly. Some of the names, colors of costumes, and even the powers my friends chose sometimes might not be up to snuff with what people who create or read comics would accept. WHO CARES! It's entertainment, for Pete's sake! That's what comics are! It's not about sales, percentages, standards, and stats! It's a chance for people to escape, explore, dream, fantasize, and make believe. It's the way comics were meant to be: FUN! What makes PENDEKA PRESS COMICS so great: They are fueled by the "READER'S" imagination!
