Consider The Great War of Africa When You Write

I want AFROcreators to produce more stories, movies, comics, art, and music about the "Great War of Africa."

The BSFS is a good place for AFROFuturistic writers to gain inspiration. Here, we can share, critique and support as well as promote each other's works. Let's put out more ideas for education, entertainment, and enlightenment. Let's consider the Great War of Africa as a shared theme.

The modern cinema is crammed with European War stories: Wonder Woman, Captain America, Nick Fury and on and on. But the Great War of Africa is mostly absent. Hollywood spent millions on the movie "Dunkirk, " but some of the greatest WWII battles were fought in Northern Africa.

The Great War of Africa began in the late 1800s when Europeans sought to steal the treasures of the Mother Land. There were many heroes, villains, and survivors worthy of prominence in our speculative arts. Real superheroes. We have much more than Black Panther.

These stories have to be told.

Who writes and produces those works? We should. We must. We will do this. And, many of us are acting on it now.

Yes! It is for us to bring to light the Afrikan heroes (men and women) who helped to shape this planet. I will do whatever I can.

Great minds think alike! I was thinking along those same lines. Military achievements by Europeans and Euro-descended peoples are recognized, widely studied and celebrated in Western scholarship, literature and popular media. African martial achievements are downplayed or ignored. There have been many great military leaders in African history, not just restricted to the continent, but across the diaspora. This is a tremendous opportunity for black writers to bring these leaders and the wars they fought to light. I recently wrote a historical fiction story about a battle between Portugal and the African kingdom of Soyo. This was a litle known confrontation that resulted in Portugal suffering one of its worst defeats at the hands of an African opponent. These types of stories need to be told and we are in a great position to thetell them.

Question on Grad School Program of Neuroscience

Posted by AL Bey on November 19, 2017 at 2:33pm 0 Comments

Hello Peeps,

Currently I'm in the final stages of applying for a grad program at Michigan State called Literary Neuroscience. This program has had "general" internet info circulating for maybe only 7 years, with arguably a location of no more than 5 schools in the whole USA. After taking the GRE today and sending out my scores to these scores, I was curious in wondering, "Are there any predominantly/historically black schools that house programs with similar combined studies of literature and cognition?" Even though the term "literary neuroscience" is relatively new, I'm sure the concept isn't. As an old saying goes, "There is nothing new under the Sun." Plus, one of thee world's foremost conventional experts on Brain Surgery & Neuroscience is renown doctor/author, Ben Carson, also from Detroit, MI. If anyone has answers and/or feedback to this vital question, let me know. And even if I do end up in Michigan, East Lansing is likely to be somewhat of a post-gentrified Nu…

SKYCITY TALKRADIO

THE UNDERGROUND BY ROXANNE BLAND

Life as alpha of a werewolf pack is anything but predictable. But even Parker Berenson is surprised by the latest twist: he’s fallen in love with a space alien. Problem is, he suspects Melera, his sexy new flame, might be the serial killer terrorizing Seattle. Or maybe she isn’t. After all, just because she’s an interstellar assassin doesn’t mean she’s guilty.
