I love the fact that there is a discussion group focusing its efforts in highlighting, supporting, and cultivating the contributions, participation, and character development of Black Women in the sci-fi genre here at BSFS......
As a male, I truly support the sisters and it is definitely needed.... The critical importance of this is profound.... in no other literary or fantasy genre does an individual have more influence in defining new roles and character than in science fiction. None other..... Other genres are tied into the past and is left to interpretation of the author's mind that may not have the experience of living the life of a Black woman... yet in science fiction those roles can be newly defined by how we as writers, creators see them from our perspective in exciting, dramatic, compassionate, fierce ways! I've added my contributions through literature, indicia, audio, and thought.... please check out examples at http://cyphrons.blogspot.com let me know what you think.
Betelhem, Ma'at, Tyre, Melekot, the Remnant are major characters in diverse roles in this sci-fi cipher saga about hope, faith, and perseverance. In this trilogy (12 books) women make up half of the major characters... Black women are the majority of that group in this series....
