She has a weird ability that allows her to solidify her slipstream. This can be a viable weapon as she can use it for anything following her or anything that she cuts off. In order for it to work, she has to either stop, slow down drastically or change direction. Her family was on the way from the beach, after celebrating her fathers new job with Thaybien Pharmaceuticals, when they were cut off by a hazardous material truck carrying an unregistered pharmaceutical created by Thaybien Pharmaceuticals. The Hazmat truck would tip over in front of them, splashing the liquid all over the car and through the windows. The parents didn't sense any changes and at the time, neither did Yanez or her older sister Anya. Eventually, Anya would begin to gain powers as her speed intensely picked up. She would reveal this secret to Yanez and beg that she didn't tell anyone because she didn't want to be labeled as a "mutt." Yanez kept it a secret and in return her sister would constantly pick on her about her speed. Anya, who obviously was faster, would poke her sister saying "Prisa, Prisa!" (meaning hurry). Even when they weren't going anywhere. Anya's attitude began to change and she decided to use her powers to steal. Yanez tried to stop her, but obviously couldn't. Anya left home, and one day on a run Yanez ran into her. In an attempt to catch her sister (something she knew she couldn't do), her will to stop her, activated something and she sped off after Anya. However, she was no where as fast as Anya and she broke the sound barrier proving that to her. Yanez revealed her powers to her parents and told them about Anya. Her parents were approached and enrolled her into Soribahn Academy...they however, chose to stay in the DR.
